What is This?

Care to hazard a guess? I have been so stressed out over other matters more important than this blog, hence the lack of substantial posts for the past few days. So in the meantime, I am curious just how many of you can figure this one out. The last time I asked such a question, I got such intriguing, amusing, outrageous and a few correct answers that the post managed to keep you all amused… Remember to formulate your answer before making the jump and reading other comments, that makes it a more “honest” answer. Heeheehee. :)

  1. I am also going with Kat. A female kangaroo’s pouch showing Joey’s front legs. Or the mother’s front legs checking if Joey is in.

  2. Im so sure its a “BEEF STRIPE” or we called it tualya2, its the first stage of a cow/lamb/goat/deer/elk intestine or where its food were grinded accordingly, we normally mixed it with papaitan recipe. cleaning it is tricky as you have to remove all attached dirts on every corner of its tissue, note that some parasites are hiding in them too so it has to be prepared at the highest form of hygiene. a boiling water can do the tricks and even turn it in white or light color, i wonder what the tricks they do in australia as stripes imported from there are already cleaned almost perfect! i liked eating it with papaitan or simply boiled with some basic repices with a lemon…mmmmmm! love it with few cans of foster or buds…..

  3. I recall you had a recent survey and the number one choice of pinoy dishes on that list was kare kare. One of the main ingredients for karekare is tripe. So I shall guess that the photo is tripe, unwashed, with a very leathery looking ridge.

  4. ..the “goto” in goto lugaw, the tripe that’s very good stuff in callos, kare-kare and “paklay” (although i prefer the “honeycomb” type to the “towel” type). and of course, pinoys generally are OV about cleaning this to a creamy white. i’ve seen thai noodle soups using tripe as black as this..YUCK!

  5. MM,

You are naughty,or are we who are the naughty ones…..ha..ha.ha.ha. can’t figure ito out…..the answers are so funny…make me laugh so loud….. ha..ha…ha.

I think the blogs erased some of your stress by now.

  6. What the hell is that!?! A carabao’s behind with it’s tail held up high? It looks fuzzy and fur-ry. But I’d guess, like the others, that it is unwashed tripe, gray from the high chlorophyll content from undigested grass. (Haha, tnx wikipedia!)

  7. The PUSOD of a dark skinned Hairy Giant… HaHaHaHa… Seriously I’m thinking it’s the uncleaned tripe of a Carabao???

  8. uncleaned beef tripe? the kind you have to boil and scrape and soak in several changes of vinegared water?

  9. LOL It’s Darth Vager fighting Luke Skyscraper.
I guess its a brown towel under another towel.

  10. a brown towel?! hehehe…

btw, MM did u happen to be eating in a fastfood chain in tagaytay early this morning? i thought i saw you ; )

  11. Never mind what that thing is; I’ve just finished watching Marketman on World Cafe Asia, woohoo! There’s a good shot of Katrina there, too!

  12. I can’t post what I think it is ‘coz it’s x-rated; is it me and my dirty mind? Hahaha. Does anybody know where we can access the Marketman on World Asia series?

  13. whatever it is its got me scared… but if its a trick question, it might be a buttonhole of some kind of leather/animal hide jacket or parka

  14. first guess – fleece liner ng jacket. 2nd guess – towel. 3rd guess – will not venture that direction. will leave it to others. haha. your photo is very suggestive. good one!

  15. As I was vacuumuing rhe area rug yesterday and flipped it over, my guess initally was carpet! Then, I was thinking out loud….why would MM want to take a picture of carpet? It is a food blog after all!!!! I saw the underside of the rug and thought …..IT HAS TO BE CONNECTED WITH FOOD!hmmmm, maybe it is the cow tripe? like flipped over? or turned over? …like the rug, the outside has the follicle looking thingey!

    OK…I give up!

  16. 2nd guess… some kind of marsupial and it’s baby’s legs?… how many guesses are each of us allowed MM? ;-))

  17. Is there a prize for guessing correctly? :P

This looks like a dirty Mr. Snuffleupagus, but one thing I know for sure… I’ve never eaten anything that looks like this.

  18. Monday blues begone! Thank you, MM…first it was the carrot and now this!!!! Yup, MM…like Diwata08 said, how many guesses are we allowed? Do we get any consolation prize?

  19. I know this is a food blog but my first thought was a pitcher plant or orchid. My second guess would be Tripe of some animal. I just saw the AFC River Cottage episode a few days ago about Cow Tripe, but it was already white.

  20. Betty Q., may I have your award-winning chocolate cake? I already checed the archives and got your recipe of Nov. ’08 but what I was looking for was your award winning one. Pleassse? Sorry for ambushing this thread!

  21. I say de-collagenized fish lips with swollen biforked tongue. Na -allergy sa lato! Ha, ha, ha.

MM, you and your wild ideas!

  22. Very suggestive photo. After the carrot and this one, I must say you are really one naughty boy, marketman. Kidding aside, it looks like the hood of a fleece jacket.

  23. MM,you are so funny and naughty, but,I like it!

Unbleached tripe? A lot of the comments made me LOL!!

  24. Would look at cleaned and pristine looking tripe differently from now on. I hope it’s not a Callos dish coming up soon. Talk about pre empting your appetite!

  25. Oh no it’s lent and I’m not supposed to entertain these thoughts… meat thoughts, or meat dishes I mean (hmmm.. :). I think it’s ox tripe for callos or kare-kare.

  26. Off topic, MM, I tried your humba recipe over the weekend but instead of anise I used 5-spice powder. Wow! something different that the family enjoyed. Thanks as always for this blog site, really helpful on all aspects!!!

  27. hala! you are firing up people’s dirty little minds!

as for me … hmmm, an animal’s genitals (yes, labia majora and the minora peeking through), or ‘twalya’/tripe, or a rolled-up old gray towel, or a closeup shot of some exotic plant.

    >> lee: si darth vager ba ay kuya ni ‘dark vajayjay’? heeeheee!!

  28. I agree with Consol. It’s an animal’s genital ,the minor and major labia.Maybe I am wrong. But anyway you are funny!!!

  29. so that’s what it is…. o my i now see callos the ulam and twalya in lugaw & karekare in a different way… =(

  30. OMG tama na !!!! MM….tell us what it is…sige lang. Dont keep us guessing for a year.
