Is it time for another eyeball??? It’s been nearly a year since the first Market Manila Eyeball, held at Galileo Enoteca where 30+ of this blog’s readers got together for a really nice lunch. Despite apprehensions on both Marketman’s part and that of the some readers about heading into a restaurant to have lunch with 30 total strangers, it turned out to be a wonderful get-together with such an interesting, erudite and amusing bunch of food-centric folks. We had readers from a wide range of ages, professions, parts of the city (and two from a Southern province), levels of fitness, etc. and everything worked out just great. This year I am thinking of an eyeball that is a pot-luck dinner instead of a restaurant meal. That way, readers who attend can bring a favorite dish (along a pre-determined theme, of course) and we can all eat a terrific, reader-supplied “buffet.†If the pot-luck idea doesn’t work out, I need to find a suitable restaurant instead. But first, I need to determine if there is enough reader interest…
I am tentatively targeting a Friday or Saturday evening in early November and it is dependent on the number of readers who would like to attend as well as finding an acceptable venue, probably in the Makati area. Though 65-68% of Market Manila’s readers live outside the Philippines and another 10-15% outside Metro-Manila, I can’t readily plan a slew of dinners in say, San Francisco, New York, Toronto, Sydney and Singapore to have a broader guest list…my apologies to those of you abroad who have been such faithful visitors and commenters on this site. At any rate, this is a first pass to see if there is any interest in a second eyeball. If you think you might like to attend The Second Market Manila Eyeball then please leave a comment here. Based on the response (or lack of it), I will try to book a date and place and will then do a follow-up post in a couple of days to solicit a final list of interested participants; you will need to confirm attendance by separate email to ensure you have a seat. Please understand that I may have to limit the total number of guests to keep things manageable. Thanks!!!

Argh! It goes without saying that I will miss this one as well. Please schedule EB#3 (or #4) around December 2007, when I am in Manila for my high school reunion. :)
Anyway, hope you all have a great time!
MM, you will surely not lack readers to attend EB#2. Please count me in.
And if you were happy with last year’s venue, I hear Galileo Enoteca will open a Makati branch next week… somewhere along Pasong Tamo, I think.
Yes! I was just thinking of this idea after you posted your Viking picture. I thought the 2nd eyeball was going to be sort of an excursion to your Batangas haven where you could give us a tour of your incredible cooktop, fish pan, etc. Hehe! Actually, any meeting place would be great.
okidoki!…sama ako dyan!…and the potluck idea is great….
Count me in. Let me know ahead of time since I am from a faraway place but I’ll be there if given enough time. Looking forward to a potluck. Let us just do it in Makati although I will not mind going to Batangas.
count me and my husband in please. whhheeee…barring some really nasty thing happening – i’ll be home next month escaping the cold! oh and yes, i’ll bring something if it’s a potluck affair.
Please count me and my husband… I just hope it would not be from Nov 10 to 17,,, I would be in hanoi covering APEC summit on these dates.. Potluck sounds good…
The last eyeball I was also out of the country, I just hope I wouldn’t miss it this time …
Hi MM, sama ako dyan. And can I bring a date please? ;-)
I’m there — whenever, wherever. =)
i’m in, and my hubby too. but only if its a saturday. we drive in from subic after work on fridays, and don’t get to makati till 9ish.
i’ll be happy to add to the pot luck as well!
I echo wys: whenever, wherever :)
Emailed you separately but just to add to the chorus: I’m in too, MM!
i’m coming. oh. that did not sound too good.
As long as it’s not from Nov. 17-20, Felipe and I will be there! Potluck’s a great idea, but does it have to be something we cook ourselves, or can it be bought? We don’t cook, we just eat. (Though I plan to change that fact soon…)
I wasnt able to make it to the first eb, this will be another chance and hopefully, hopefully I can come!! For now, I’m in and I’ll probably bring along some friends too.
I’m IN! With my wife and Aidan. Can’t wait for it!
Wooowww!!! This is cool! Count me in please, and I might bring along a couple of my friends who’re food lovers/adventurers, too. Potluck is a good idea! Can’t wait to know what the theme is. Ciao!
Great idea; about time too! I’m in. (Hubby too.)
If you post a date then I would be able to tell whether I can make it or not.
As it is I would want to go.
waaaaa……why can’t it be after 18 Dec 06? :(
Wow you did read our minds for wanting another EB. Even though its a once a year affair were looking forward to it. Please tell us in advance your theme so we could already do some research/experiments or get it from our treasured recipes.Cant wait for that day.
Waaaah! I wanna go! I wanna go!!!!
Okay… tantrum over (composes herself) I’m okay now.
I sincerely wish all of the EBers to have a great time and great food in the company of the esteemed MM. WE WANT FOOD PORN PICS!!!!
MM! Stressful mag-potluck! May portion issue pa yan…. Let’s eb at a resto na lang! :)
i’ll be home in june 2007 and back july which means that i won’t be able to come :-( sayang, it would have been great to meet everybody and MM. enjoy na lang all. and yes, post the pics.
I want to go too! But I agree with Gigi. We also have to think and take care of dinnerware, flatware, etc….
hopefully it would be held somewhere close to where i live so me and my hubby can go.. this would be really exciting.. to be able to meet and dine with MM and my fellow commenters and/or blogger..weeeee!!!
sounds cool. count me in.

Sali ako jan, MM! Count me in!!!
Would love to join but will only be in Manila from mid-Dec till 1st week Jan. 07.
Hoy sali rin ako. I’m leaving Los Angeles on the 16th of October and should be home in Sta. Rosa, Laguna on the 18th. I will be home for almost 2 months vacation and fly back to Los Angeles on the 10th of December. Ano gusto ninyo buco pie or puto Binan? Saan gagawin? I haven’t tried durian cheese cake puwede bang save me one box? How much? Or trade tayo with buco pie or puto Binan or a bottle of Victoria Secret Body Splash?
Count me in, too. =)
Puto Binan ang gusto ko Danny! I’ll be coming from Marilao so I’ll bring Puto Polo and Pancit Marilao…
I’d love to go! How about the Top 10 Filipino dishes and dessert as the theme? Yum! I could offer a venue but I’d like to know how many are coming.
can you please add me to your list?
Thanks MM!
i wanna go too, i’ll be leaving los angeles on the 21st of october and will be back on the 12th of november, i hope its not the date na nasa boracay kami….
oh no, an’t make it. haha as if my presence was expected to begin with, hehe. will be in europe.
I’m In, MM!
Classic Capampangan Sisig,
homemade for the foodies!
Alchohol will be allowed, right?
Sounds like fun! I would definitely be interested in attending if I am in Manila at the time of the big event. I currently live in NY, but am planning to visit Manila for the holidays (around December and/or January).
I hope I can attend this EB.
hello market man! want to attend your event but we’re out here, so far away. sayang next march pa ang manila visit namin.
have a wonderful and successful potluck!
I wanna go! I already missed the first one!
IF for some reason you decide to have your EB in December, I will be there! I am still based in EU but should be back home for good 1st week of December…
Count me in!
I would love to go again! Hope it happens.
Just missed the first one when I learned about this site. Would not want to miss the second one!
Count me in!!!!
My bitter-half (wife) and I will be in the Philippines on Nov. 10 until Nov. 21
MM, I will definitely attend if it’s within the above mentioned dates. What can I bribe you with? I was thinking of bringing persimons (fuyu) from our tree as pasalubong but you have to send someone to pick them up. We are booked in Renaissance 11/10 thru 11/13 and then a day in Hyatt Hotel and Casino and then spend the rest of our stay in Dusit. So, please, kindly accomodate us. Thanks in advance!
Hello Mita,
I’ll bring Orient Buco Pies and Edna’s Puto Binan!! Pero Kailan ba talaga at saan gagawin? Finally sa dinami dami ng messages ko sa MarketMan, finally I will be able to attend the get together. I can’t wait to go home. The weather in California is getting cooler and nice but I’m sure I will enjoy 2 months vacation in the Philippines. I miss my comfort food in Laguna like biya, kanduli and banana cue.
waaahhh!!! i hope im in manila pag nag-eb! count me in kung ayos sa schedule ko. may i bring a date, hehehehehe.
sounds good. count me in… plus 1.
This is GREAT NEWS!!!! Of course, I want to attend!!! :) Yehey!!
Sali ako! Just name the venue and will show up.
yes, Will definitely make myself availble and pot luck sounds great. Only thing is will be out of town from November 7-19.
how about having another one in febraury?
Well, I want to attend this EB. MM, give us the exact date para maarrange ang schedule.
From the response MM is getting, it looks like a big party. Why don’t we get a big venue and charge a small amount for entrance? This should cover the venue and the basic food. Everyone is still welcome to bring their favorite dish. It’ll be a grand “potluck” buffet. Scrumptious!
would be great but just like katrina and felipe, cant cook. pwede some restaurant nalang? maybe mezzaluna in serendra? or anywhere would be okay!
Or how about renting out the space next to Salcedo Market when it’s in full swing, do a picnic on the park grounds? For those too lazy to make food, grab something from the market. All of us could bring a banig or blanket and lots of Off lotion to avoid getting bitten by ants.
Ang saya! Ikain ninyo na lang kami na mga hindi makakarating. And please, post the photos, kahit magkulay berde kami sa inggit. Enjoy!
Please count me in :)
Okay, i’ll stop being a lurker. Please count me in and my friend. But I agree with gigi. Potluck parties are just too stressful. Can we just choose a resto, eat and enjoy?
I missed the eyeball last year, another eyeball will be great, i just hope it will happen before I leave for Maldives. . .
sana talga by this month. . . potluck is good for me. . .
waaaah…. i’m missing it again????
Oh come on, this is not fair!! I want to taste all the foods that i never tasted before….and i wont be there to do it. Just post alot of pictures and let me drool at it. Good Luck to everyone who are attending.
So is this the reason for your diet? :-)
Hi, MM! Can you include me on your list please? I love good conversation and would love to meet you and other food enthusiasts. Thanks much!
Naku I was hoping you would say this but for now that I am in Manila for my HS reunion. Went to Salcedo already last Saturday, looking for orange crocs among the shoes, in case I spotted someone na baka si MM (parang stalker!) Enjoyed Salcedo thanks to you. Had my fill of budbud and piaya, plus my old favorite Chinese lumpia, food from the grove and tuyo in bottles! Yum yum. Sigue, vicarious nalang ulit yung EB after you blog about it.
Hi MM. My wife and I are good to go again. If it has to be potluck, can those of us whose culinary skills are a bit challenged just bring drinks (wine/juice/sodas) instead? Best if it’s a resto though. Either way, am sure it’s going to be another fun and filling eyeball event.
I’m putting in a tentative yes. I’d love to come but my schedule is crazy lately and i’d hate to back out at the last minute. But if fate is kind, I am so there.
Inggit ako! Maybe you could webcast the EB for the rest of us? (half-joking, half-serious–hehe)
I just had a parang nalugi feeling after I saw this blog kasi I definitely can’t make it this time and won’t be in Manila til next March/April 07. Sayang naman!
Yes,
Please count me and my husband in. Thanks!
I would love to go again! :) Great idea!
Great! Count me in :)
I second the webcast request, LOL. I don’t think I’ve ever posted on your blog before, but I am a foodie and would have loved to join you all for good food and conversation, but alas I am in New York City.
If you decide to have another in a few months, I’ll be visiting Manila from mid-Feb. to mid-April. Cheers.
i’d love to join :)
Discovered your blog a days after the first EB. Sure would like to be part of the second! Hope the date matches mine.
Count me in!!! :-)
I have always been a lurker in this infamous blog of yours, and let me tell you, i love YOU and your blog. yes I’m in love with MARKETMAN!
Anyway, I hope I can join you guys, just tell me when and where and what to bring.
Amora
Hi MM, I am a newbie to your site but I really love it.
I’d like to join you guys on this second eyeball, I live here in Metro Manila so I guess I can make it this November =D
hi mm, my husband and i would love to attend your eb. i really hope we can attend. (sana naman wag nov.26)I’ve learned a lot from your blog, not only about food but more on consumer empowerment, and sana i can thank and congratulate you personally. I’ll bring tinadtad :) and the best brazo mercedes i ever tasted.
Can I join? =)
I am another of the silent lurkers who avidly checks this site everyday! It would be great to meet you and the rest of the gang. My hubby and I are true blue foodies and we would both love to join you at the next EB. Please count on us, whether resto, pot luck or even Salcedo Market on a Saturday.
Cheers!
