Thanks, Roshan!

We had just arrived from the beach and had a relatively simple steak dinner at home for my birthday. The Teen and Mrs. MM were a bit crazed and certainly not in any mood to bake a cake on short notice, so I gather they resorted to one of their go-to spectacular dessert providers, Roshan Samtani. First up, a layered meringue cake with lots of lemon curd with walnuts and a buttercream icing. Amazing. I love the interplay between very tart curd (I think it was made even tarter for this particular cake on request), the walnuts and the sweet meringue and icing. Delicious. Excellent with a hot cup of tea. A big hit with guests as well. And something I would definitely not have the patience or even capability to make.

Just look at that cross section! Calories galore but you only celebrate your birthday one day a year, right? :) The Teen also had a hand in the dessert orders, as the official birthday cake/cookie looked like something she would definitely choose from a line up of potential birthday cakes… it was a giant chocolate chip cookie of a medium to hard consistency and decorated with some icing. Tasted great as well. I have written about Roshan’s desserts before, here and here. Okay, now I really have to map out a diet for the next four months… :)

  13. I used to order a cake from Sugarnut that looked something like that but it was called Lemon Torte. I wonder if it’s the same cake. The icing though is whipped cream and not buttercream and it had white chocolate shavings on top. Since I’m here in the US, I really miss that cake. Does anyone have a recipe of Lemon Torte?

ive done the lapu-lapu, or what kind of fish that was, escabeche that was featured in your blog… and it was so good… though have to substitute the lapu-lapu with tilapia…

the sauce was so easy to prepare, and i now know that the secret to a good escabeche is ginger… =)
