During the past two weeks, this website has slowed down dramatically or been unavailable for say 30-90 minutes at a time. I thought it was an issue with the host or server but it seems it has something to do with the volume of visitors, the volume of content in both posts and photographs, and the fact that some of my technical settings needed to be updated. I can’t explain any of that in more detail, because I don’t understand it. But last night until early this morning my website consultant was kind enough to do whatever was necessary to try and fix things, hence Market Manila was off-line almost the entire evening and into early this morning. We seem to be on the path to better things, thank you readers for bearing with this glitch. It seems some of my posts have been altered or messed up in the migration so bear with the site while things get sorted out. I hope in the days ahead the site will be more reliable and speed will recover. Now, back to regular programming, or should I say kaboging…. :)Â

Your rants and raves are always well-written and concise. The rants do not sound like they come from an angry, unreasonable cave-man (which rants often can be). I find your writing style diplomatic yet direct. Yours is one food blog I have to read everyday, along with Lori’s dessertcomesfirst. Going around HK’s markets and groceries (where I am based), always reminds me of you and your insatiable curiosiy about edible goods, their prices and their uses. Were you ever based here before? The quantity of Chinese ingredients from herbs to berries to dried seafood is overwhelming. I’m a half-Chinese foodie and home cook myself but sadly I can’t name half of them. Time to educate myself, I guess. The quantity of other goods from Asia to South Africa would make any self-respecting foodie/chef/marketer weep with joy. I love the food scene in HK but I also miss PInoy food, kakanins, streetfood and party fare. Your site is a delicious link to home. Thank you for being such a prolific, honest blogger.
I’ve never really had any problems with your site. First thing in my mornings is your site that I view. If you plan to change any formats please let me know. I don’t want to be left out.
Yeah, I get withdrawal symptoms when I can’t access Marketman’s site! :)
oh that’s there reason why i can’t seem to access your site early this morning.. hehehe! it’s your blog and lori’s that i visit everyday.. can’t seem to have a complete day wthout reading it and if i find there aren’t new posts i feel bad.. hahaha!! your site and lori’s are like my coffee fix in the wee mornings when i usually log in.. hehehe! more recipes!
I agree with Jean.
MM, ‘am curious … do people’s email get sent to your ISP’s email account? If so, then you may want to avail of a web-based email account (e.g., yahoo or gmail) in its place. This way, you would rarely run the risk of losing emails sent to you … plus yahoo’s or google’s email servers are definitely more robust and more reliable, in my opinion. Oh, ‘am bringing this up in light of the budbud kabog hoopla earlier and the reference to the supposedly gotten lost correspondence between you and MVH.
Of course, it may all depend on your workflow (vis-a-vis managing your web site and people’s comments). You probably prefer to do everything in one place.
Anyway, I just thought I’d recommend it.
Oh yeah, I look forward in reading how you make out with your “budbud kabog” experiments. I’m sure you’d get it right eventually :)

ragamuffin girl, thanks for that comment. While I worked for several companies with offices in Hong Kong, I never lived there per se. I did live at the Island Shagrila for roughly 4 months once while on a project though! I have to admit I am generally clueless about Chinese ingredients and it is something I would eventually like to learn more about. Szechuan peppercorns is about the extent of my knowledge… Jean, Sylvia and noemi et al, thanks for visiting marketmanila so regularly!
eD et al, yes, I am having contact/email difficulties during the last few days as I have upgraded to the newer version of WordPress…things are still being worked on, thanks for the heads up.
Hi Marketman,
Are you still having problems with your contact/email facility? I tried sending an email to you last night and this morning but got an error. It said something about not having filled in required fields even though I did. Hope things get sorted out.
deebee, yes I am having major problems. The site was down for over 4 hours last night and early morning. My host/servers are out of whack. I am nearly exaperated and am looking at alternative hosts…it is such a bummer! Sorry for the inconvenience…hopefully I will be back up in full form in a few days…
