With roughly 180 employees to zhugge up for the hullabaloo of a holiday weekend around the Sinulog Festival, we decided to have our own Sinulog t-shirts for staff and extras for any guests who wanted to purchase them. We asked Lee, a long-time reader/commenter and friend to come up with a design and this is the one we decided on. Rooted in history, the Sinulog dance is based on a wave, and unknown to those not familiar with the parade, it actually starts out the day before as a fluvial parade on the channel between Mactan and Cebu, hence the banca, the dancing folks, and of course imbedded is our pig and in the waves our talakitok as well. A HUGE THANK YOU to Lee, first for even agreeing to take a crack at this, and for the terrific result!
Sinulog this year falls on the same day that Pope Francis will be celebrating mass in Luneta, so the Cebu holiday might be overshadowed. But if I know Cebuanos, millions of them will participate and watch the Sinulog parade in the morning, watch/listen to that Papal mass, then millions of them will proceed to party like there’s no tomorrow. See you in Cebu if you are joining the festivities!
