Regulars, Read This… :)

Hi Everyone. If you followed the Anthony Bourdain visit a few weeks ago and the posts that I did, kindly jump back to this post, and scroll down the comments to one by “cherry” which has some fairly strong personal opinions about Marketman and that particular post (not sure if she read any of the previous ones)… I just re-read the post and I thought I came off as being extremely proud of the experience and thrilled with the opportunity to cook lechons for Mr. Bourdain, and thankful that my crew were able to pull it all off, but ARROGANT??? :)

  1. Once in a while you get this kind of response to your posts and I believe they are either the same person or group of person that we have encountered here. She might be a troll needing attention or somebody jealous she did not meet Mr. Bourdain. Another guess is that she has a big crush on you that she demands attention and making sure she gets it by being negative. Or she might be ……. Well there are so many possibilities. I have learned to ignore such messages, or course, this being your domain you have all the right how you want to deal with it. However, in my opinion, I think you just made her happy by glorifying her with this post. :)

  2. MM, some people make statements and take actions that are physically damaging, politically dangerous, hypocritical, racist, sexist or mendacious – they need to be stood up to vociferously.

Other people have views so plain daft, sad or utterly small minded that you simply have to try to rise above them and not bother to react too much. I thought, under the circumstances and the provocation, your response was extremely polite and well mannered. Suggest that you (and readers) leave Cherry to deal with her own personal angst and bitterness! Everyone else here can continue to enjoy the run up to Xmas, good food and good company and of course your blog.

    Best wishes to you.

  3. I am more inclined to think that the comment was offhand in the extreme. The person does not know you or your blog to have made it. The Bourdain piece actually struck me like you were a child who got candy for Christmas. Almost gleeful. :)

    Ignore.

  4. Hi Rob et al, actually, I ignore 99+% of such comments. What you don’t generally see are the ones I delete off hand for being really off the wall, don’t give real addresses, are libelous, slanderous, etc. While I try to be as open as I would like, I have to say that in the past year, with the 15,000 hits on average the site is getting every day, and roughly 50-120 comments per day depending on topics, at least 8+ really strange or off the wall comments come in every week. I ignore most of them. I let a few in just for spice… if you know what I mean. As for emails, I am now getting some 3-4 really wacky emails per day, and delete most of those. I write this just so you get an idea how often I look the other way, and yet every few weeks or months, I get ones I choose to let in for public scrutiny… Life would be too boring without episodes such as these… If you go back to this link on “what makes a good blog?” then one of the points in that post was that some posts “vex readers.” :)

  5. AMEN to RobKSA and Adam. Case closed. Let’s get back to cooking ideas.

Betty Q, still trying to figure out …you know what I mean. I will watch out for your typos, or maybe, leave them just “as is”. Nakakaaliw, making it feel/sound like you were typing after downing an expensive bottle of brandy meant for sister’s fruitcake.Hic,Heh, heh.

BTW, my hubby is beginning to suspect I am having a virtual affair….being on this blog most of the day. But you are the champion. Feels like you live here.

  6. I feel sad for cherry…

I guess you can expect at least one “Fishpan Lady” commenter a year.

So, just to offset cherry’s comments…

Bravo! MM, Bravo! you have done Filipino cuisine proud.

I can’t wait to illegally download the “No Reservations” episode when it comes out in January hehehe.

and, oh, MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY 2009! to you!

  7. mm is not your ordinary blogger. To have anthony bourdain request mm in one of his segments. My god!!! what an honor! I guess cherry is not aware of your educational resume mm. I think you should put a link of that post that you did awhile back when you had some words to say about a particular newspaper. By cherry’s words, it seems to insinuate that you don’t have breeding lol. MM no breeding??? this well travelled guy, full of knowledge on international cuisine and knows the who’s who of society, no BREEDING??? now that’s a laugh! it’s so hilarious thinking about it that mm has no breeding.

  8. I would not be so judgemental, MM. If I were in your shoes I might have said the same words.

    So, let go.

We believe in you, without reservations.

  9. Ditto to Robksa and Adam….Ignore ignore ignore Mr MM. Must be having her perpetual “period”. Hahahahaha….
    Once in a while we’ll get those…
Anyway, back to normal programming for the family that loves to cook and share good vibes and good deeds…..and good food for the families we love. Will pray for her though.

  10. MM, love the “proletarian” comment :P As siopao says, at least one Fishpan Lady a year… As usual, crab mentality. And inggit.

  11. My guess is that Cherry is not a regular follower of your blog…

Anyways, why waste space on somebody who comments like her? It’s not worth it, at least us regulars know that you are doing a great thing :)

  12. I agree with myra_p …. beh inggit ka lang.
It’s pretty obvious she has not followed your blog.
cherry, kung wala kang magawa, magtanim ka ng kamote.

  13. And I thought cherries were supposed to be sweet and red. This one is obviously sour… and green with you know what.

I’m just surprised to hear that these troublemakers have been here before, because RobKSA points that you and your regulars have encountered these trolls before. I’m used to seeing them on the NBA message boards (the trash talk there can get extremely combative.. yeah, good times), but on a nice blog like this it puzzles me. Perhaps cherry runs a competitive blog and doesn’t approve of your success.

Ignore the troll, Marketman. She (or he?) obviously has ulterior motives for doing this.

  14. confident, yes. arrogant? i don’t think so. :)

maybe it was the reference to bond, james bond, that ticked “cherry” off. hehe

  15. hahaha , MM you truly are a foodie, wanting a bit of “spice” in every aspect of your life! Sadly for this uninformed commenter, Ignorance, more often than not hides behind a veil of disdain – and it shows. Manahimik ka na lang Inday! By the way guys, Anthony Bourdain stayed in the hotel i work in and I didn’t even know because he was booked under another name! aaaaarrrghhh! Yes MM, I understand you were sworn to secrecy -but when you told me that at the EB I wanted to cry!

  16. I seldom leave comments here as I merely enjoy reading MM’s blogs. I love the fact that I get to have a glimpse of the kind of life he lives because I simply get inspired. Through the years, I have learned that he is no ordinary guy with ordinary means. However, never in any of his post did I get the impression that he is showing off. He simply shares himself and whatever fascinates him for the time being – from emsaimada to lechon.

Also, unlike the other food blogs which became a vehicle of commercialism (how sad!), MM has remained true to his readers. As any blogger would know, MM does not earn or in any way profit from the efforts he exert in maintaining this blog. If at all, he uses his blog as a means of reaching out to the less fortunate.

So, cherry, be sure to read through this blog. Only then will you understand how uninitiated your comment was.

  17. I’m not a regular follower of your blog (an error which I will rectify ASAP) but your entry about Anthony’s visit to Cebu did not strike me as arrogant. Sure, I got envious (I mean, who wouldn’t be, di ba? But I mean that in a nice way), but I was happy and proud too just reading it. You could’ve kept quiet about it and left people hanging about what happened and let us all wait for next year.

Anyway, best to ignore that. Thank you again for sharing your day with Mr. Bourdain. I look forward to seeing the episode in full. Cheers!

  18. Chrerry, you mess up with my idol MM and you mess up with me.
He is proud of his country and food! He makes thousands of people happy everyday by sharing his God given talents. God Bless MM for being an inspiration to so many of us. We are proud of you NOT JEALOUS like ignorant Cherry. Cherry if you think he is an arrogant person, why do you plan to watch the episode??

  19. hi MM, Ignore that THING…..not worth your time…believe me there are alot of PEOPLE here who enjoy your articles , learning from your stories, experiments, adventures….ANd most of all don’t find you as such(cherry)!…i really enjoy your blog..i am always excited on what topic you will talk about…and most of all i learn alot not just about food…but also about sharing our blessings to others in need.you know what maybe It is just envious of you…Anthony Bourdain.. that’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.Happy Holidays MM… KEEP SMILING!

  20. hi MM, in my opinion that’s why u got so many readers and followers in this blog because your blog attracts all kinds of people from serious bloggers to wacky people ;-)
i say keep it up and God Bless

  21. Perhaps she’s mad that you couldn’t find the muryekos recipe she asked for on your cassava cakes entry.

  22. Virtual finger-flick; get rid of the lint. MM, I’m not even from the Philippines, but I was cheering all the way through that post. You’ve done so much for your country and cuisine by just blogging your everyday, and we’ve all learned so, so much from it. You should be very proud of yourself.

  23. Well that’s certainly an unusual and solitary opinion. I can’t think of a single Filipino who would not be proud about this accomplishment and representation of our culture and hospitality. I certainly was! Don’t let it detract from the experience.

  24. Ooh, a juicy Cherry dripping with spite and bile! I like sour cherries, they’re called griottes in French. But bitter ones? First time I’ve seen ’em!

  25. Mr. MM ive been following your blog for some time now, ouch naman yung “proletarian” comment mo, it’s wrong to judge people just because they come from a certain school, it seems you just branded a person by negatively associating it with a just what a fraction of what’s inside the University.

And new users come to your site everyday, right? of course you can’t expect newbies get a good grasp of what your site is right off the bat, what could be educational for one could be arrogant for another. Cherry misjudged you for one post, just as you misjudged her. I think you should be kinder to your readers and not be too defensive. If negative comments are not welcome, then this is not a free blog after all.

Im not siding with this cherry or anything, just giving my opinion. I’m glad you do what you do, like how you touched that cancer patient’s life with stories from your cooking. Just be open-minded and don’t be so touchy because it won’t benefit you.

  26. I am no lawyer but have worked for soooo many years with cops…one thing I learned from them is dealing with facts! One needs to substantiate their accusations with facts. If what you say Cherry is something that you have only observed, it will not hold up in court…unless you are an expert but I think you still need to validate your accusations with statistics or what not! Until cops or investigators have something concrete on their hands, they cannot go ahead charge or make accusations!

I am really sorry you felt that way about MM…maybe if you get the chance to meet him? and chat with him which a lot of us would like to do even though we are thousands of miles away, you might change your perception of what he does and who he is!!!

You have a good day, Cherry!

  27. Throw out the sole rotten cherry from the fruit basket; it tends to ruin the set up.

Move along, MM. Not worth a speck of your time.

  28. Besides, MM we cannot please everyone even when I make osmething…there is always that someone that has something to say! But I have learned to look at it in a constructive manner!!!! …para hindi madagdagan ang puti kong buhok!!!!…try it…it works!!!!

  29. Oh, Connie C….I just have to tell you this…sorry, MM!…my hubby also thinks the same way…ahahahaha…he would most of the time kunyari go and ask me something and then his eyes would be glued to the screen! BTW, MM I think he is on his way of becoming another MM Fan! …hey, convert your hubby, Connie C! on second thought maybe not at baka kayo mag-agawan ng computer time…

OK..call me tonight or any night…604 552 3875 and I will go over it with you on the phone step by step!

  30. Before my husband started his blog, he consulted our lawyer. She said it’s ok as long as he doesn’t write anything libelous. Sadly, some people don’t understand that. In blogging or even in leaving comments, come with great responsibility and ethics. Some readers think that they own the blog and sometimes even the blogger. They tend to forget that they are mere guests and the blogger is still the host who can block and scan offensive, rude, malicious, and libelous comments. It is still Marketman’s decision what and how he will write on his journal. And as a reader I think I owe him to be courteous whenever I leave a comment. Kung ayaw mo ng nakasulat eh di wag mo basahin. Nobody wants to be insulted in his/her own turf.
to home economist – classmate, ikaw ba yan?

  31. Let me borrow some words/comments by Marc Medina in a previous post….

AY NAKO!!!!! HINAYUPAK NA CHERRY NA ITO!! (and Belle, you’re not far behind).

And we have a saying in the culinary world…”If you can’t stand the heat in the kitchen, then get out!”

  32. You Anthony Bourdain posted wasn’t arrogantly written. In fact, it was very entertaining.

Can’t wait to see what your Christmas tree looks like this year, MM. :)

  33. Cherry, you are probably ecstatic that you now have an entry devoted to you. Congratulations you little troll.

  34. MM, no worries, trolls have a way of invading the best of websites and I fear Cherry is a troll.

  35. You are doing fabulous job – you are above and beyond the call of duty. There is a always a rotten tomato in a basket.

  36. It’s just sad that someone would think that of you MM, I guess this reminds me that we’re not in a perfect world, and it’s difficult to please everyone.. It’s a free country I know and we are entitle to our own opinion, but calling you “arrogant” is too strong of a word….Cherry doesn’t know any better, but we do MM, so “boo hooo” to you Cherry!

  37. Hey MM, have you ever considered doing a FishPan Award once a year for the most negative comment you’ve gotten throughout the year? Perhaps get the rest of the blog readers to vote on the winner?

And BTW, I thought your piece on Anthony Bourdain was very good. I have to say though, AB looked like he could use a long nap.

  38. Patrick, hahaha, a fishpan award, that would be too good indeed. Problem is, folks would be vying to get it and I might be inundated with nasty remarks! As for Anthony needing a nap, actually, this was their last day of a week long shoot and I am sure he was anxious to get back to New York to see his family. He was actually very engaging and interesting throughout the day. As for other comments and possibly that I had been a bit harsh on the reply to Cherry, as I stated above, I look the other way 99% of the time and smack back once in a while, in the overall scheme of things, I consider the average response very tame indeed…

  39. Hi everyone, the U.P. comment may seem uncalled for, but it is meant for Cherry only after reading her comment, t I do not necessarily mean it for all U.P. alumni. After all, two of my sisters attended U.P., my uncle was the President of the University, and another uncle was the Dean of Fine Arts. So I have a huge respect for the university. Perhaps a lot less so for Cherry…

  40. I admire all that you are doing – and look forward to all your postings. Philo of Alexandria said “be kind for everyone is fighting a great battle.” so let us just wish Cherry some kindness, calulu-oy man sa iya, pobre espiritu. In the meantime, all blessings to you, MM and your family. Can’t wait to see the Bourdain show in the early part of next year.

  41. Here’s an advise to Cherry, “make sure the brain is engaged before putting mouth into gear”.

  42. Why oh why someone has to feel compelled to rain on your parade had me thinking about the latent mean streak that some people seem to have. Why not just celebrate the fact that Philippine cuisine is finally getting the exposure it deserves and had someone articulate, classy and well-versed to be the medium! We are proud you were one of Anthony Bourdain’s segment hosts for this episode, and wish you all the best. And you have every right to be miffed about her mean-spirited comments, but let’s ignore her na lang. The fact that your blog is credible, incredibly interesting and read by people around the world is vindication enough. No other blog captures my undivided attention first thing in the morning, every morning. Bravo!

  43. Hahahaha to connie c and bettyq. My hubby naman is grateful to MM for once again igniting my passion for the kitchen.I stopped for sometime due to health reasons…but now the aroma of baking and cooking wafts through the whole house regularly. But I’m not introducing him to Marketman yet…he might monopolize the laptop. Cheers to all of us …and to you MM!!!! Thanks for all the goodwill your posts generate!!!

  44. Well MM, you and this site has been thru this type of post in the past. Its nothing to sweat about, But i do agree that it is irritating at times specially when someone has nothing good to say and just contradicts all of the positive posts in the site. Personally, I enjoy every bit of your post.

So I say…. write away MM… Write like the wind hahahaha More power to you !

  45. how sad that a person na walang magawa would make a comment like that about your blog…

happy holidays from chicago MM and family!

keep up the good work and looking forward to more yummy posts :)

  46. maybe cherry is a die hard foodie and food writer.. deep inside wishing to host anthony bourdain… I have been blogging since 2005, I get nasty comments too ;-)

  47. I’m not a regular. I’m an XL or XXL and Marketman and the lechon eyeball guests can attest to that.

Oh… we’re talking about regular commenters… then i’m an XXL regular.

  48. Hi MM! I’m proudly from UP, but I didn’t take offense to your UP comment because I know all too well we have some strange eggs in there. =)

Love your blog, love your honesty and enthusiasm, love the feeling of “community” among your readers. Don’t let the turkeys get you down!

  49. There’s always a risk in opening ourselves to an unfettered public through these blogs. There will always be flies that will want to spoil the ointment.

You’ve done only good with your blog, Marketman.

May you be truly blessed for your efforts!

  50. it’s quite obvious that cherry is a sour grape, i mean, cherry!
i am sure that she was jealous of what you’ve accomplished. imagine, hosting a lechon lunch for the great anthony bourdain… and unselfishly sharing the experience with your readers! there are some people like her who are not happy when they see somebody accomplish something not in their favor. cherry, eat your heart out!

  51. Can’t please them all rings true..why bother posting comments if you’re going to be a downer, isn’t there more useful things you can focus your energy on? If you can’t be a positive force in this planet.. the least you could do is to be negative.

  52. mr bourdain was in town? what hole did i fall into….
as for cherry…hmm- envy? is that you? ay yes! it is!! and she brought along her friends uselessness and sour grapes too!!! (heehee)

  53. there would always be spoilers, and they deserve to be ignored. . . or just pity them cause they only find recognition when they do stuff like these, they can’t do anything better than be poor critics. . .

  54. hahaha! I know certain Up-ians who looove to be just plain nasty! It’s like a badge of honor for them…and cool. Ano ba tawag dun —“enfant terrible” tama ba spelling?

Anyway, I really like how you won’t let these type of commenters go off the hook just like that. It does add spice but then I really read your blog just because your posts adds up to my knowledge of things. I am not into television…just internet.

  55. cherry….that’s a laugh!!! there are only 2 words to describe you…bitter & envy!

MM, 99.99% of us keeps on thanking you for everything you’re SHARING us and not just showing off!

  56. I’ve been a faithful reader of this site for a year now. This is the first comment that that I have written. I too am tired of the people who can not be proud of their fellow filipinos that accomplish something and do good for others. And instead put you down. I can’t wait to watch the episode of Anthony Bourdain in the Philippines, so that everyone who watches can see that it is such a beautiful country that can serve good food. They can see the positive side of the Philippines, and not go by all the negative comments they hear in the news. Now they can see for themselves.

The bottom line is, this person is not a very happy person and wants to bring down another persons morale just like hers.

Keep up the good work and I hope to see your site for a very very long time.

  57. to belle, sinabi na namang hindi niya nilalahat yung mga taga -UP eh hirap naman umintindi o talagang ayaw lang intindihin {hmmm i remember your comment on MM’s callos(?) being over, oh well )

  58. naku marketman! sabi nga nila “kapag pinukol ka ng bato pukulin mo naman ng tinapay”.. sige umpisahan mo ng pukulin si cherry ng “hinayupak na ensaymada” ng matauhan.he he he inggit lang siya!

  59. If there’s nothing good to say, sabi nga wag na lang magsalita. I don’t think your post about Bourdain’s visit was arrogant, it was an entertaining piece.

Green monster just stay away from this blog :)

  60. MM, why does she have to comment that way? To be different? To make a point or to be just the one with the incendiary comment?

Maybe trying to court controversy or was hungering for some cyber confrontation from you or us, your blog’s followers? Damn, I just don’t get them. Why cant some people be proud of their own kababayan’s good fortune for a change! Is it a case of plain old INGGIT or what?

I was so thrilled when you were to host Tony Bourdain’s Cebu segment, imagine, my favorite food blogger and favorite bad-ass, rock & roll chef together in the country and enjoying my favorite lechon Cebu! Why cant folks be happy for that? Me inapi ka ba or natapakan na tao?

Just my PHP 0.02, MM. Cheers!

  61. ako nga di ko kilala c anthony bourdain and just because ive been a regular of this blog kahit na hindi ako real foodie (as of this time), ive learned a lot of things and im thankful to MM and a lot of posters here for that. as ive said in my first post long time ago, im so sure MM and his family are of means, very good means but he doesn’t come off as bragging all about it much more being arrogant and all.

mabuhay ka Mr. MM, you know who you are and that’s all that matters.

to cherry, God bless your soul!

  62. Hello, MM, I second the motion, it’s not worth the effort. And yes, you were gleeful, not arrogant. A friend and fellow reader and I were just screaming that we finally saw you in frontals.

The link/email address that points to UP does not necessarily mean that a person is a UP graduate. Maybe a staff, an employee, a faculty member, who are not necessarily UP graduates. An alumnus/alumna does not have a UP email address (unless they chose to teach at the university), only those enrolled at the moment.

Cherry may be enrolled in a graduate course, but that does not brand her as a true-blue UP, unless she took her undergraduate course at the university, too.

Anyhow, all baskets have a rotten tomato or two, and just like some people have pointed out, UP attracts wacky ones, just like your blog does. Remember that famous ones do.

  63. Just ignore them MarketMan although you are right in putting some off-comments for “spice” in your blog hehehehe!=) Anyway this blog rocks!

I have always believed that in opinions, “to each his own” is the way to go BUT do it with RESPECT in mind. I guess those people whose comments about you are way out of hand must have not read the entire posts in this blog. Too bad for them for staying so IGNORANT yet so ARROGANTLY downgrading this blog and you, MarkteMan.

By the way MarketMan, your posts are NEVER ARROGANT in any way. If there is any worthy Filipino that Anthony Bourdain should meet here, I strongly believe it that you should be included.

    And I’m glad you were.=)

  64. Hi MM, With the amount of replies that you got from this topic. I’m pretty sure it will give you more adrenalin to chunk out more recipe for us. You got 99% followers who relies on you :)

  65. MM,
    I don’t get Cherry’s hostility.
I found your post on Anthony Bourdain quite entertaining. It never came off as “yabang” at all.
    Keep up the good work.

  66. Oh btw, those links need some forewarning of some sort. Sarcastic and not too friendly as this site, ok? :p Foodies are so bubbly and are all, “Look, butterflies!” as opposed to other bloggers hehehe.

  67. that person needs to polish her vocabulary. her choice of words to describe your blog as sooo way off the mark. there is no excuse for being rude.
just continue with the good work MM. there are a lot more people rooting for you.

  68. Dont worry MM this blog is totally the best!! And some little bitchy reader wont hurt this blog but makes it more interesting… Keep up the marvelous blog MM

  69. sometime_lurker… LOL@ “look, butterflies!” I know what you mean :) And yeah, dooce.com needs a disclaimer…

  70. Marketman will always be Marketman and he is “FAMOUS”!!! and cherry??? what???who???? luoy wala nakaila :(

  71. Cherry’s the one that is so full of herself… she could give “ms. fishpan” a run for her money. It’s sad the way a lot of people fail to even think before doing something…

    Anyway, “jerk magnet” (hehehe)
or not… MM, you still are the best!!!

  72. OH CHERRY, CHERRY, CHERRY, WHY MUST YOU BE SO BERRY UNMERRY??? I was away for the last 15 hours from email access, and was only able to try and check the authenticity of your email address now. As expected, you didn’t have the balls, or for a woman the constitution/honesty/integrity to sling mud and give a REAL functioning email address. And since I am away from my desk, I can’t check my list of chronic fishpan type commenters and their IP addresses that I keep on a “lunatic list”… so maybe in a few days, I can even see if you have spewed vitriole before… thanks for the amusement factor, my hits or traffic today doubled, but even if we can’t pinpoint you right now, the bad vibes sent your way should be enough to bruise any fruit. :) And you didn’t even raise one hair on my neck. I am getting better at handling such ridiculous comments. Good riddance.

  73. Really what good can come from posting comments like this? Cherry, weren’t you ever taught to ind your manners when in someone else’s home – in this case on someone else’s blog- and another lesson in etiquette that you should have been taught when you were a wee girl… if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all!

  74. MM, i got a free day just now and checked on how things are in your blog.
Congratulations on the success of the EB and the feeding program.

But what’s this? My hackles are bristling…

I agree with Alicia… that cherry has really bad manners.

to cherry: sign up for a blog and post your angst there.

  75. Hi MM, I heard one preacher say, that the good (deeds, accomplishments and character) if other people stirs the “bad” in others…and the same preacher said, all you have to do is “shake the dust off your feet” and that’s what you did. Bravo! More power and God bless!

  76. I hope you are happy now that you got noticed. Unfortunately, 15 minutes of fame that you wanted backfired and what we you got was a spot on the worst poster’s in MM’s website.

  77. Blogs are personal that’s a given. If memory serves MM, did mention it to be so on the about page. To Cherry, If you don’t like what you read..Learn to close your eyes.As for Mr. MM and this successful, educational and mouth watering blog.Keep up the good work.God bless. You make filipinos proud.

  78. hi mm-
i am going to read her comments in awhile. but i just want to say that (a) this is a personal blog and you can write what you want; the rest of us make the choice to read or not, and (b) you weren’t arrogant at all about the anthony bourdain thing. it was the coolest thing evah!

  79. To Cherry:

Seriously, these readers ADORE you. They think nothing but good thoughts for you and your ilk. Write more often. It will bring so much joy to so many.

Love like this is hard to find. It’s even harder to get rid of.

    Cheers!

  80. sometimes i don’t understand why some people leave rude or negative comments that are uncalled for.

anyway, don’t worry too much, MM. we all love you :) looking forward to reading more on whats important- your fabulous food posts, christmas and the feeding program :)

  81. wow..she must be happy now that a post dedicated to her has 90+ comments already… not a bad thing for a start…

anyways… just dont mind her, maybe she’s troubled.

how about making a recipe dedicated to her? she’d be much happier.

  82. Cherry doesn’t know arrogance if it smacked her on the head — twice. I can’t understand where she’s coming from at all (a deep, dark hole maybe?). Such hatred.

When I read your Bourdain blog, I actually went out and had some roast pork. Oooh, the craving, I just had to give in. A friend of mine actually went to your lechon eyeball and I was so jealous. And he never said anything about you being arrogant. And he was there.

And Cherry got this arrogance crap from reading one post. Geez, Cherry. Why don’t you go pop or something.

  83. Ok, Maki…as MM said to APM in another post..”ask/seek and it will be granted”… I will comeup with a dessert or cake and name it YUPI (translation: flattened ) Cherry Gateau!!! sounds good?…uh, Oh I am going to get crap from the others now!!! I better quit while I am ahead….hahahahah

  84. Cherry , now you got your 15 minutes of fame. How does it feel? MarketMan so now you know that you are so popular because there will be people now who will try to degrade you. I hope that Cherry will realize that one of the reasons people like you and enjoy reading your site is because you help us, you make us happy, and we enjoy the camaraderie that we get when all of your readers kinda coverse with each other and you know agree and disagree on certain things that we read here. I hope that there will be more people who are like you. For all readers who like to insult and degrade well you are entitled to your own opinion but BOO-HOO to all of you.

  85. omigod Cherry, how does that article come off as arrogant? To me, it sounded like Marketman was one starstruck fan who was so excited to be chosen to host his idol and was also excited to share the experience with us, his readers. Whoever you are, you actually sound bitter that you were not chosen to be featured in A. Bourdain’s episode. You should change your name to Grape…Sour Grape.

  86. Connie C and Betty Q… i’m way ahead, ladies. my husband, a UP graduate, visited the website yesterday. A new convert and as expected, he got diverted and was unproductive at work. Fortunately, he is the big boss and will not be sacked.

  87. I re-read the Bourdain post several times, just to see if I could see it from Cherry’s point of view by reading just that one post. This is what I found instead.

    1. MARKETMAN IS HUMBLE (MM said “I am not a chef. I have never even taken a cooking course. I simply like to dabble in the kitchen and am innately curious about ingredients and markets. This blog has expanded my food knowledge over the past four years. But “amateur home cook” is still the best way to describe what I do. So why I was suddenly faced with playing host for a day to a big-name world traveller/chef/writer/gourmet/adventurer, I will never really know.”)

    2. LIKE ANY FILIPINO, MARKETMAN ENTERTAINS A SPECIAL GUEST WITH GUSTO. (MM said ” I wanted the menu to reflect a REAL meal, something folks from that part of the country could really relate to. Festive yet simple. Reflective of the ingredients available on the island”)

    3. MARKETMAN IS HUMAN AND DOWN TO EARTH. (MM said “I must admit to a case of serious nerves about this whole thing and I don’t do particularly well in front of cameras, but Tony was extremely nice, very calm and that made this part of the day a little less uncomfortable than I thought it would be… I was sweating like a pig (apocryphal? and oxymoron?, as pigs have few sweat glands) throughout the hour and a half at the market, while the man from New York remained as cool as a cucumber.”)

    4. MARKETMAN APPRECIATES OTHER PEOPLES WORK AND DOES NOT KEEP THE ACCOLADE TO HIMSELF. (MM said “I would have never been able to pull off this entire day/lunch with Anthony Bourdain without the help of my Cebu family office crew, a 15+ strong complement of accountants, lawyers, messengers, finance people, leasing specialists, drivers, gardeners, maintenance personnel, who were all pressed into kitchen duty, prepping, cooking and serving a fiesta type meal. In addition to them, we had lechoneros, puso makers, kakanin makers, seafood scouts and purveyors, farmers et al also involved in some way or another. I thank them all for a job superbly done.”)

I have met Marketman, Mrs. MM, The Teen and the cebu crew (that MM treats like family) several times and I can say this much, That despite the educational, social, and financial pedigree of Mr. and Mrs MM, they live a simple and humble life.

So, I’m sorry Cherry (and Belle), you read Marketman wrong and thus the reason why you are being flamed. I believe the 97+ post will also confirm my observation

  88. i think Cherry is such a sad and lonely person. and she will feel oh so miserable when the episode finally airs because we all know that you made us proud MM.

i agree with Sylvia, Cherry should change her name to Sour Grape.

  89. Folks, I think it’s clear that “cherry” is not an ordinary visitor making an honest comment on Marketman’s blog.

That person, whoever she or he is (cherry could just as easily be a guy), probably doesn’t even believe that Marketman was being arrogant. The “arrogance” accusation is just a ruse. Cherry’s sole objective was to pick a fight with you and your regulars.

Marketman, I hope you someday succeed in finding the identities of cherry and other troublemakers who have been targeting you online. They are motivated by either personal or professional resentment of your success. I’m just glad that Bourdain didn’t have to see this example of Filipino “crab mentality” while he was here.

  90. I don’t understand people who just can’t be happy for other people’s successes.

I think the best thing to do is ignore Cherry’s (aka Sour Grapes) comment and move on. Life is too short to entertain negative comments…it’s also too short to be eating bad food :)

So, Cherry, if you have nothing nice/positive to share, go visit another blog!

  91. Thanks artisan chocolatier for your very sober take on MM and his blog on the episode with Anthony Bourdain.

For me if there is anything that comes across topmost about MM in his blog, it is his honesty about himself. He knows what he wants to do and is unapologetic about what he is, what he has and what he does. Now that is a REAL person!

  92. Manong MM, addict ako sa blog mo and your adventures….deserve mo talaga to be the rep for anthony b. segment because you give a clean outlook about things whether it be food, politics, trips and have a humble touch with sensitivity to others…walang ek-ek..never boring. This kind of negative ppl just want attention that they don’t deserve…msg ko sa kanila…gumawa cla nang may katuturan para makakuha rin cla nang positive comments.
