Our 20th Wedding Anniversary… :)

Yup, 20 years married today. A pretty major milestone, specially since when marriage was invented, most folks only lived to 38 or so years average life expectancy. So I think it’s a bit stingy to say that all you would traditionally be expected to give/receive as a present on this momentous day is a bit of porcelain… :) At any rate, Mrs. MM and Marketman didn’t go with the “porcelain” theme this year. I got this spectacular little original watercolor, framed in glass, particularly significant because it is a painting of the interiors of San Sebastian Basilica, in Quiapo, where we got married 20 years ago… It is incredibly similar in look and feel as some of our color photographs from the wedding…

Mrs. Marketman got two maps from 1752 (they are a set) of the Philippine archipelago, based on Father Murillo de Velarde’s map, the “Mother of all Philippine Maps” done by Jacques Nicolas Bellin. They will be added to her small collection of maps that show so many little quirks and “mistakes” from maps between 1500 to 1800… No fancy parties or dinners planned, just a quiet day out at the beach with the Teen. Oh, and maybe a well-chilled bottle of Veuve Clicquot, an annual anniversary tradition. :)

  18. Happy anniversary, MM and Mrs. MM! 20 years of being married is such an accomplishment nowadays, what with all the news of separation you see left and right… some people find it hard to honor commitments in marriage, so yours is truly an inspiration.

    My husband and I celebrated our seventh a few days ago. This news made me giddy all over again. :)

  23. Congratulations! Just have to say San Sebastian was in our short list of churches as well. Gothic, all-steel, prefab structure shipped from Belgium and reputedly designed by Eiffel. Beautiful.

    I immediately recognized the church from the drawing, as I spent a lot of my childhood Sundays admiring the old interiors of San Sebastian, the stained glass windows, the large pipe organ at the back, wondering why they never used the pulpit, all while admittedly not paying attention to the ongoing mass. Just got a rush of all those memories back.
