If the Teen ever decides to marry… I hope I recall this favorite line from the television series “Downton Abbey” when Robert, the Earl of Grantham, who says to his daughter Lady Sybil’s beau after deciding to give his blessing for the unusual union:
“If you mistreat her, I will personally have you torn to pieces by wild dogs…”
Hahaha. Wasn’t that wretched? :)
And the beau’s/chauffeur’s response?
“I would expect nothing less…”
Touché! :)
Happy Valentine’s Day to All!

I’ve been meaning to get started on that series due to all the good reviews. I’m a sucker for British period dramas.
That was a great scene! Glad it ended happily for all of them – Lady Sybil, her father, the Earl and the beau/chauffeur, Branson. Can’t get enough of Downton Abbey!
Love the series!
I loved it in the first season with Mrs Hughes and her beau: I would wait a week for the right answer than a day for the wrong one. ^_^
And Maggie Smith is amazing!
Happy Hearts day to you too MM! :-)
Happy Valentines Day!!
I am following Downton Abbey on PBS. It airs every Sunday night. I love , love this series and of course any other British period series. Maggie Smith is just a wonderful Lola with her on and off sternness and her comments about aristocracy.
MM, I bet you are already prepared for when the boys starts calling on the teen. I have a friend who has a 7 yr old daughter. Their answering machine goes: “You have reached the home of X and XX. Please leave a message after the beep. The child will not be returning calls until 2026.” Ha ha ha.
Happy Valentine’s Day MM and family! Happy Valentine’s Day to the MarketManila community!
I also like Quark Henares’ line if Hayden breaks his mother’s (Vicky Belo) heart again:
“I will personally kill you.”
LOL
That was then. Now I would stand aside while my daughter tears him apart.
Very typical for a father…. LOL!!!
So love this series. Eagerly waiting for Season 3!
You might need to acquire something more ferocious than a beautiful brown labrador…
Josephine, we used to have five seriously loyal german shepherds growing up — they would do the deed with little urging. :)
MM, i watch Downton Abbey every Sunday. there were actually quite a number of zingers this last episode. like: “don’t be defeatist dear, it’s very middle class.” & “the aristocracy has not survived by its intransigence…” all from Lady Violet. the dialogue you feature was really good, and i imagine, quite realistic for dads with daughters. :)
love, love, love this series. my 11 year old son watches it with me and laughs at the dialogue. especially Lady Violet’s…. happy bottomtime (my son used to say this instead of Valentine’s) day to you MM, your family and readers!
Too early to think of the teen getting married. First I am imagining her cotillon with all the flowers and great arrangements to the T by MM and Mrs. MM. On the other hand maybe the teen will decide to forgo the cotillon in place of a Range Rover. hmmm……
OMG, I can’t picture the teen getting married!! She was barely walking when I first met her!!! But that IS a brilliant line to keep in your pocket for when that day comes. Downton Abbey rocks.
Iove this show–this last episode was especially soapy–I’m tempted to buy the 2nd season blu-ray already but at the same time want to savor it. You’ll be glad to know for the third season, Shirley MacLaine will be joining the cast as Lady Grantham’s mother– https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-16796462. Imagine her and the Dowager Countess–they’ll have the best lines i’m sure.
Cranford, Dr. Zhivago and Downton Abbey are my favorites.
My fave quote from Downton Abbey is: “With your permission, dear, I’ll take my fences one at a time.”
MM, I would expect nothing less from you than: “…I will personally ensure your slow and excruciatingly painful death, and tear you apart, piece by miserable piece and scatter your remains where nothing but cockroaches and other scavengers would delight in your demise..”
