Meteor Hits Cebu…

Marketman happened to be 500 feet above sea level on a mountain side in Cebu one evening, with camera at the ready, when this small meteor crashed into the reclamation area! How amazing is that? Too amazing, I am kidding, of course. But actually, I think it is incredibly cool that a Cebuano, Christopher Go, actually caught a serious flash of light on Jupiter on live video two Thursdays ago, here. Go to the link and watch the short video, it is way cool. The huge flash of light in the photo above was taken several weeks ago when the City of Cebu was trying to break the Guinness Book of World Records record for the most number of firecrackers/rockets going off simultaneously. It lasted all of about 30 seconds and I managed to capture this photo from maybe 6-7 kilometers away! Not sure if they beat the current record, however.

An hour or two later, there was a pretty massive fireworks display at the reclamation area and from our vantage point halfway up the mountains, we captured the following photos. My camera was set to a long exposure and I took all of these standing up and holding my breath… no tripod handy. But I kind of like the shakey, bright and colorful photos that resulted…

The teen finished her first year of high school (9th grade) this June so we have reason to celebrate and let off some fireworks… :) We are now preparing to head off on our summer holiday, but I have left posts to keep you all amused. Enjoy the fireworks photos, below…

i must thank you for all the interesting and welcome excursions into non- food topics. food of course remains a special interest, but learning new things shared with such candidness and writing savvy ae so refreshing.

    thanks mm!

  2. have a fabulous vacation, Mr. & Mrs. MM.

nice fireworks…we Davaoenos haven’t seen fireworks here in many, many years skince the fireworks/firecrackers ban took effect.

  3. ohhhh…very nice. I love fireworks! Reminds me of my days in Hong Kong when we celebrate the 3rd day after Chinese New Year. It’s done in the harbor though.

  4. These are unique, unusual shots of fireworks. A great prelude to your trip. Your wife will certainly be using her French to your advantage haggling at the souks in Marrakech.

  5. Go is a Jupiter specialist. I corresponded with him a couple years ago when he discovered the “Red Spot Jr”. He said on most clear nights he can be found staring at the Giant.
