Marketmanila picked as a “Fave” of “Word of Mouth…”

“Word of Mouth” is a food blog set up by The Guardian Newspaper (and Media Group) and the Observer Food Monthly of the U.K. I was wondering why I had a noticeable surge in blog visitors yesterday and many of them from the United Kingdom, so I checked new inbound links and it seems that Marketmanila was picked as one of their “Our Faves” Food blogs along with one of my other personal favorites, Eating Asia. Geez, I am very flattered. Thank you “Word of Mouth” for the mention… And welcome to readers who have found this site through the Guardian/Observer Food Blog…

  1. Congratulations and your populations increase substantially. Good work cannot be kept unnoticed! Keep up the good rewarding and entertaining job!

  2. Congratulations Marketman! The Steak Lady and Maria Clara have put it so well. It’s like an early birthday gift from the world of blog! =)

  3. Nice! If you have more British readers now you really have to try your hand at deep-fried candy bars! Or you could localize it … deep-fried Chocolate Mallows … deep-fried Chocolate Crispies … deep-fried Chocnut (I think that would be too crumbly though). =)

  4. Way to go MM !!! Congratulations are certainly in order. Also, because of your links page, I was introduced to, and have been following Robyn and Dave’s (e.g., Eating Asia) recent introduction to Filipino food.

  5. Congratulations! That must be such a wonderful feeling. :) I’m a fan of Eating Asia too and it’s a huge compliment to be fave’d alonside them. Way to go!

  6. Congratulations! You are special and one of a kind:) We just can’t enough of MarketManila.

And what a nice advanced birthday gift for our favorite Pinoy-na-Pinoy MM! You make all of us proud!

  8. Congrats MM!I’m a regular reader of your blog.I was also surprised to see an article about MM in an edition of Yummy magazine a few months back.Keep up the good work!

  9. Congrats, MM.

Someone posted a comment in my blog that a neurotic commenter who’s been bugging me lately got his ass kicked here… am looking for it… :)

  10. Congratulations MM. Now you will have to do an article on steak and kidney pie and black pudding.

When I was an undergrad in London during the singing sixties I used to read The Manchester Guardian, as it was then called. It is quite left wing, as I was then, like all students. Now I am liberal right wing I do not read it any more. Next stop for you, The Times!I write this from Alabang by the way not from the UK having found the best country to live in, finally. Keep right on MM,

  11. Congratulations! I too read Eating Asia and i can sense the same joie de vivre with you!

  12. It is not surprising. Thequality and sincerity of the articles are superior. This blog has spoiled us. And it’s your fault!

    A well-deserved congratulations.
May the synatic connection between your taste buds and your keyboard be always sharp and true.

  13. OT lang po…ayy, napansin ko lang po na mali ang pagbaybay nila ng salitang “Manila”: dalawang “l” ang nakasulat sa doon sa Word of Mouth. Ngunit ok lang po, ang mahalaga’y nakasama :)

  14. Congratulations MM!! This is wonderful, you get to be the Ambassador of Food for the Philippines – and you do a splendid job showing us the myriad of possibilities out there. Thank you!!

  15. Congratulations MM. So now you can feature UK chicken pot pie and fish and chips with vinegar?

  16. Steak and kidney pie with a pint for you mate. The link should turn certain people several shades greener.

  17. congratulations MM,,, a well deserved recognition,,, and about time too!!

eating asia is one of my fave blogs also…

one reason why people go to your site again and again and again is the amount of updates and the uniqueness of the topics… im sure you’ve piqued the Brits’ penchant for new exotic tastes.

  18. Congratulations MM for a job well done. You deserve it. Not only because you love food and cooking and your articles are great but because you’ve got a good heart. God bless….

  19. Congratulations MM! You have truly made my web surfing pleasurable and educating as well!

  20. Congratulations MM!!! One of the main reasons why I love your blog is that you write in ENGLISH and when you use a Tagalog phrase, you at least translate it into English. You give many of us around the world a deeper insight into the Philippines. Your culinary trips throughout the archipelago have attained legendary status. This is why you are popular world-wide. You do a better job than anyone in the Philippine Dept. of Tourism to promote the country.

Practically all the other blogs from the Philippines (regardless of topic) use a lot of Tagalog with no translation which limits their audience to those familiar with the vernacular. A non-Tagalog speaker will read their English blog entries on an interesting subject but then the conclusion will be in Tagalog! I find this tantamount to conversing at the dinner table in a language not comprehensible to other dining partners. I know expatriates in Manila that this happens to all the time, usually it’s a joke or some humourous story in English where the punchline is in Tagalog. They think it’s rather impolite.

I have introduced your blog to at least 20 relatives & friends throughout the world who access it daily. Thank you for allowing us to live vicariously through you.

  21. Congrats MM! I am your silent fan! Not so silent today though, can’t help not joining the fanfare. Great work!

  22. Rob, I second the emotion. When I find myself the minority english speaker in a group, I do find it impolite, or uncomfortable at best, when comments are made in another language I dont understand. And so now you’ve explained why Marketmanila has such a broad audience that includes non-filipinos… Nice to know MM and all posters here are helping to bring filipino food and culture to the rest of the world in a smart and effective way!

  23. Congratulations! It’s gratifying to know that Filipino food blogs are getting more and more attention from the international community. I know that pinoycook.net, another favourite of mine, was mentioned in the (if I remember correctly) New York Times. Great job, MM!

  24. Congratulations to you, to your staff/crew and family! I’m proud to be one of the thousands if not millions readers of MarkeManila.com!!! Keep up the good work! KUDOS!!!

  25. congratulations MM, you really deserve all the recognitions you’re getting…….just came back from holidays and loads of catching up to do ! :)
