Little Brown Book and Marketmanila T-shirt pick-ups This Saturday, Dec. 8th!

“Walang Indianan.” It’s a term I have completely forgotten about until “Silly Lolo” mentioned it a few weeks ago. It dates back to my school days in the 1970’s and 80’s so I gather it is an age specific term. It means to be a no show, to not meet an earlier commitment or promise. It is meant lightly, usually. So I am using it here to remind all of you who reserved Little Brown Books, that this Saturday, December 8, 2007, is the last day to pick up your orders. More than 400 books still sit waiting for their marketmanila linked buyers. So please, if you reserved a book or books with Mae and she confirmed your order, kindly arrange to pick it up this Saturday at these earlier provided contact details/directions. Many people were turned away for this book based on your earlier reservations, and frankly, it would be a personal embarrassment to Marketman if many of the readers turn out to be no-shows. Some people have texted Mae to say they absolutely cannot make Saturday, so they have now widened the pick up hours and you can go look for Mae today or tomorrow (10-4pm) or on the previously published hours Saturday. Unclaimed books will be sold to other interested buyers after Saturday on a first come, first served basis. And I will be rather MM “blunt” and say that if more than 10% of the reserved books are unclaimed, I will NEVER AGAIN publish a “find” or “offer” such as this one for marketmanila readers as it puts me in an uncomfortable light when a lot of reservations are left unclaimed…

Having said that, my crew will also be present at the PCPD Building on Saturday from 9am to 12noon only, with the remaining 150 marketmanila shirts (and very few totes) for the Marketmanila Public School Feeding Program. As soon as I get home this evening and can download my pictures I will do a post on the first feeding program. I cannot emphasize enough how much joy you can bring to these undernourished kids. So if you still want to help, I hope to see you on Saturday… I will try to be there in person at 9am. Total funds raised for the feeding program thus far is just under PHP200,000, and these last few shirts here and in Davao (details out soon) could raise another PHP50,000+ Many thanks again to everyone who have already managed to drop by one of the earlier pick-up points!

  1. If you have unclaimed little brown book please let me know so i can get some for me. I wasn’t able to order in time but just let me know coz am very sure will get them.

  2. teny, yes, it does sound like there are quite a few folks who would gladly take reserved but unclaimed copies. After Saturday, they will release reserved but unclaimed copies. Thanks!

  3. I got my books last Saturday and am happy! Thanks for giving out the directions to PCPD, MM. :)

  4. HI MM

Will dropby this saturday for the shirt & tote (i’m keeping my fingers crossed. sana walang biglaan na assignment ang boss ko… sob) Hope to get 1 of the reserved/unclaimed little brown book. Thanks thanks…

  5. missed the first 2 pick up points for totes/shirts but i got my little brown books and totes at pdcd early last saturday. thanks, MM!

  6. My parents are frequent travel back home and would love a guidebook such as this. Unfortunately, I don’t know anyone close enough who I can impose on to pick a copy for me. I would have no qualms about extra shipping and handling, making extra donations etc. if it were possible. Oh well, such is the unfairness in life…Boo hoo…

  7. Chad, there is still a range of XS to XL, but the sayings and colors are getting less voluminous… in other words, choices are getting narrower… The sizes seem to be “American” sizes rather than “Asian” sizes…

  8. i’m intrested in the tote and the little brown book. pls let me know if there are some available. Incidentally, if I am unable to pick it up can I deposit some money into your account and maybe you could get someone to send it to me through johnny air or jrs or wga…. :)

  9. Anne, sorry, I am not taking transfers or cheques. And pick up arrangements are as described. The logistics and special requests are making the effort a bit hairy… sorry, I can’t be more accomodating, but its already a somewhat herculean effort at the moment with limited resources and crew… thanks! Faye, I will see how brown book pick ups go and will let interested parties know that status of supplies…

  10. I got a couple of books, one for myself(although I already have an agenda book for ’08)and one as a gift. I think it is worth it and better design than the ones commercially sold in bookstores…thanks again, MM for offering…it was a good buy on my part. I hope you will not tire offering good buys with/without a cause.

  11. hi, it’s my first time to post… im really interested to purchase some of the unclaimed little brown books… do i need to drop by on saturday at around closing time so i could buy some unclaimed books or will you be selling them at a different venue/manner? thanks…

  12. a bit far, but i will go there and cross my fingers that i can grab a copy or copies of the little brown book as well the tote…

  13. i want a few of those little brown books for myself and my foodie titas. i was not in town when your entry came out for the book and so i was not able to place an order (although my husband was able to pick up our shirts and tote). any chance that they would sell me some on saturday even if i didn’t order? i’ll be going south from makati in the morning of that day and i could make a sidetrip to the pcpd building if there’s any chance they’ll sell me some.

  14. ok MM, I understand. I’m still intrested though, so please let me know if there are available books and totes. thanks a bunch!

  15. I ordered 3 little brown books, and as soon as i saw them I instantly regretted not ordering more. I’m really pleased with my t-shirts, totes and books. It would be a real blow if you stopped giving us the scoop on these great products. So i hope those people who have ordered them do the right thing and collect them or they let us all down.

  16. teny, i reserved two of the little brown book, but unfortunately i can’t pick them up last saturday or this saturday. i am out of town and i feel so guilty if i just ignore this offer for you to take them instead. please text me at this number 09158122772 so i could give you my info…i think they might need that to release the books under the reserved list. if i receive no text from you till tomorrow, i will do everything in my power to get the books just to save face…hahaha!

  17. I haven’t seen my loot yet but I am so happy my friend got to pick them up last week, even the little brown book. And I am happier to be able to help, even just a little bit. Happy Holidays to everyone!

  18. mm, congratulations on ur feeding program!

hey, would like to get a copy of the little brown book. have been visiting this site from time to time but was it was too late when i read about the order procedure of the little brown book.

chunky, pls let me know if i can take the 02books u reserved :)

  19. I would like to get a copy of unclaimed little brown book. Let me know if you decide to release them. Thanks!

  20. Marketman, I’m really desperate! I don’t want to be an “indian” and get camels’ fleas but Hubby is out of the country and the only place I’m familiar with and confident to drive in is in QC area. I want my shirts, tote and hopefully a little brown book too! I know this is too much to ask considering everything you’ve done, please do have a pick-up point in QC.

  21. Please let us know how to get the unclaimed little brown books. Like do we go at closing time ? or do you sell next saturday ? don’t want to go all the way to Makati then just find out there are no more. Sent SMS to Mae last week no answer. called her she did not answer as well. :(

  22. allen, if you’re as desperate as you sound, maybe you can just take a cab so you won’t have to drive. or to avoid traffic, just take the mrt from qc then get off at magallanes station, it’s just one jeep ride away from edsa (as in you’ll be there in 7 mins) or you can just take a cab from the magallanes station.

dear mm, in the spirit of xmas, please don’t punish those who weren’t delinquent by no longer publicizing great finds and offers just because for one reason or another, some couldn’t pick up their reserved stuff. the lil brown book is indeed a great gift idea and i wish i had bought more. i hope you share with us your other great finds especially now that we’re pressed for gifts to give.

    ps
i thought the shirts were nicely made (i was expecting them to be of katya material or something considering you were just giving them away),but after i saw the pix on the feeding program, i felt like the mm shirts were worth a 100x more than an armani shirt. way to go mm!

  23. Already got my shirt last week! (Well, it was my sister who bought it for me. She was a bit disappointed not to see MM). Wish I could also purchase a book but my family’s not available this weekend.

  24. i was going to order a few copies of the little brown book when MM first posted, but was put off by the person who answered the phone. i was simply asking about a few details and also the possible pick-up points(like, if it’s going to be in paranaque or alabang, no way i can get there.), but she seems uninterested and masungit. it’s rather disheartening, especially for a cause such as this.

  25. Kayenne, sorry to hear about shabby treatment, I suspect the school was just overwhelmed with response. After all, they had to handle 4,000 total orders… and this is only part of their current task lists… but all books were initially reserved, now it’s the pick up that is the issue… Onie, thanks! filet minion, next time I post a “find” I simply won’t get in the middle of the “buy.” :) Jayjay and other readers willing to take up the unclaimed books, I have to check with the school about how they plan to let them go… stay tuned… allen, I am not certain I can do a QC pick-up, but please, don’t do anything you are uncomfortable with just to get the stuff…

  26. Hi kayenne, apparently there is only one pick-up point for the books which was posted earlier(plus directions) and from mae’s text, there was no need to call or reply to her message…it’s probably a bit overwhelming to be getting a volume of orders. She did not respond to my query re directions when I was getting lost so i really had to park and ask(plus additional 40 minutes wait, for the lunchbreak when i got there and I came from Q.C on my way to Alabang)…but the books were worth it. Check out MM’s detailed directions on how to get there, you may have a better sense of directions than I do.

  27. hiMM! pls let me know if u have any unclaimed little brown books. i’ll be happy to get one. Di ako “indian”.hehehe

  28. finally, read the december 8 pick up schedule just in time. have reserved a shirt and will finally get it tomorrow. am also interested in the little brown book but have no reservations, hope you could spare even just one copy tomorrow. thanks.

  29. so MM, how do we know if there are unclaimed books and stuff? do we just show up on the 8th and hope that those who ordered are truly indianeros? :)

  30. Anne, I will post if there are a lot of leftovers and how to pick them up. But its safest to say that leftovers will not be known until late Saturday… thanks.

  31. very interested to have 1 little brown book. can u pls email me if i cud have 1 from the unclaimed ones. thanks

  32. Chunky will be happy to get your reserved orders.. In fact i want to get more than 2 . texted you twice hope you got it.

  33. I thought there’s a pick up schedule in SM North Edsa? I really wish to get my tshirt but I don’t really know how to commute to that place in Makati. I’m not comfortable. Kindly consider our request, please?

  34. grace, post on davao pickups will be up later tonight. Pick-ups from Monday morning onwards… thanks! Maria, was trying to arrange North Edsa pick up and will have final word after tomorrow’s pick up. Thanks!

  35. Been out these past 3 days.. naku, have a lot of readings to do to catch up on mr. MM’s recent posts.. :)

Busy arranging/buying stuffs for an orphanage my Uncle’s sponsoring this Christmas! :) Hope I could catch Mr. MM tom to have 2 tote bags signed!

*I’m also one of those who are waiting for unclaimed Little Brown Books! hehe..

  36. MarketMan,

Please reserve 2 agenda books for me (from the reserved but not picked up books) I really hope I could get :) I am willing to get it anytime its made available. Thank you!

  37. elaine,

thanks, but i didn’t make any reservations anymore after the call. i called to ask before the venue was posted, since i wanted to know if i will be able to make the trip first, prior to reserving – it would be unkind of me to reserve only to learn later on that i will not be able to get to the area, and thereby ditching my order for 10-12 of those. i initially couldn’t even get the name and address of the school when i first asked. i have, however, since then found something else instead to give.

i do understand that it’s a rather busy season, but i’d like to think that i’ve never been as short with anyone calling to ask about a product.

  38. Hi MM, I got my Little Brown Book already! It’s sooo pretty and über informative! I can’t wait to start using it. Thank you so much for featuring it here. I was with my friend (who also ordered) to pick it up and we got there so early the tables weren’t even set up yet, hehe.ü Thank you so much again!

  39. I would be interested in getting a few little brown books as well, i’ll be watching the blogs for further updates. Thanks again MM :D

  40. Hi MM! I would like to purchase 3 shirts (beat eggs to make mayo shirt), sizes 1 M and 2 XL. I called up Mae last wk but she doesn’t answer my call. Please let me know. Thanks and more power! :)

  41. Guys! I bought 5 Lil’ Brown Books but am moved to sell 3 of them! I got it at 830 this Saturday am. How I wished I saw cheery, happy-hearted MM because the peeps manning the booth this am sure gave off the Scroogey vibe. MM, thanks for your very precise directions. I didn’t have a car this am and I braved the place and got myself the most patient cab driver.

Guys – Kindly YM/email me at xtianfarmgirl@yahoo.com. I just live within the Makati Business District so no sweat for the pick-up. :)

  42. Hi MM. I reserved a half dozen brown books with Mae the very first time you posted about it and was ernestly hoping the pick-up would be scheduled before the end of November since I will be out of town by then. Alas the pick-up days turned out to be December 1 and 8, and I will be back tomorrow yet with no proxy available to get the books in my stead. Sigh… Life just ain’t fair at times. I tried texting Mae repeatedly 2 weeks ago if I can just get my order from their school and where it is located, but she hasn’t replied to date. Just want to let you know that there are folks like yours truly who are sincere in keeping our word regarding our orders (go ask Pito of Coffee Mangosteen Cake fame) – it’s just a matter of plain and simple conflict in schedule. Hope you will post ASAP the update on how to avail of the unclaimed books, and that you will never tire of giving us the heads up on prized finds like this despite hitches along the way. Happy holidays!

  43. hi gigi, im interested in buying all three of your little brown books… (or any of the extra copies you have) i hope im not too late!… i’ve been trying to send you an email in the addy you gave but it kept bouncing back, please please please contact me, my email is Lyancarlos@yahoo.com

  44. I was at PCPD building at 310 today only to be turned away by the guard =( i tried to call Mae ahead to tell them i was on my way but i guess with the volume of calls/sms she must be getting with the orders that she wasn’t able to answer my queries. a meeting in the Manila area got me stuck for almost 4 hours of non moving traffic! and imagine my dissapointment when i got to the fort area entrance going to Pasong Tamo extension that there was heavy work on the road.. another 40 minutes delay. i would have gladly run to the compound if only i knew where it was… i really hope there will still be another pick up schedule again. Thanks!

  45. The Steak Lady : Oh pareho tayo. Got stuck in so much traffic on the way to Pasong Tamo ext. I got there at about 3:15 and the guard said “Sarado na po.” I sent a msg to at around 2:45PM and her only reply was “We have 15mins left.” I was also surprised to be stuck because of ongoing roadwork. Ang lapit nalang pala sa compound :/ I hope they can still schedule another pick up date.

  46. Hi Everyone, there were roughly 150 or about 18% unclaimed little brown books as at 3pm yesterday. Any unclaimed books have been now alloted to folks from the school that were on a waitlist. So I don’t think there will be any more available to marketmanila readers. I am sorry the school didn’t stay open beyond their stated 3 pm hours, but everyone was already on overtime on a Saturday as it is. Mae works directly for the school, not marketmanila, so she isn’t taking any “orders” for marketmanila shirts, totes, etc… Gigi, I arrived at 9am! So I just missed you, but thanks for dropping by… Teddycapz and others unable to pick-up; I totally understand there is difficulty managing the pickups from limited times and schedules, but thanks for your interest anyway, perhaps next time… I can’t do much about the books now, as I mentioned earlier, there was a lot of demand, so the school had to sell them to others once unclaimed… Sorry about that. Many thanks to all that have participated in the Public School Feeding Program and the Little Brown Book… maraming salamat!

  47. A little miscommunication between my sister and I proved to be a lucky streak! Not only was she able to buy 1 little brown book but she saw AND talked to MM himself! (or so she thinks?! That was you, MM, and not your double, right? :D) She said she was sort of star-struck and completely taken by surprise. Normally articulate, she got tongue-tied, bewildered and could not even remember if she responded intelligently. [I teased her that she did not take her meds again! heehee :D] Just want to say THANK YOU MM! So happy…

  48. Hi MM! Too bad I missed you! :( Had errands left and right that Saturday morning. I thought about staying a little longer to catch you but I wasn’t too hot about lingering in that pick-up point! Had a cab waiting too. Was there at 815am but was told na 830am pa. Mae may have been overwhelmed and all but how hard was it to move a facial muscle and flash some of her pearly whites…. Oh well….

MM, your schoolkiddie feeding program is noble but I must say, you also deserve great praises for choosing to spend your Saturday morning (2 Saturdays to be precise) to sell totes and shirts! If it weren’t for your clear directions, we would have gone around in circles looking for what turned out to be Spookyville … that PCPD Compound! Fun sana kung Salcedo Market next time! :)

    Thanks again, MM! :)
    God Bless your heart!

  49. Hi MM,

I hope there’ll be a second publishing of the little brown book soon. I really want to have my own copy. I’m sure there are still so many who’ll sign up, and probably, a lot more who want to re-order. Thanks.

  50. Last saturday Mae sent me a text message saying it was the last day for picking up the Little Brown Book. I asked her for the nearest landmark of the building and she just replied with “car dealer and Petron” after looking for a few minutes I still didn’t find the building so I called her up and she didn’t answer. It was already 3:30pm and I was still looking for the building. I’d like to comment on Mae. First of all, she should have answered my calls because it was the last day for pick up and I went all the way to pasong tamo ext to look for the building. Second, she did not confirm my order prior to saturday so I had to squeeze that to my schedule.

I ordered the book and I am still interested on getting it. Can I still get the book any day this week? I just need clear instructions to the place or better yet a map.

  51. Gen, sorry you missed the pick-ups. I have posted clear written instructions to the site. I also posted the pick up dates, times and the fact that failure to pick up would result in forfeiture of order. Instructions to PCPD have been on this website for weeks, in links in the posts related to the pick-ups. They closed the pick-ups at 3pm Saturday, as previously announced. Over 450+ books were picked up within the stated pick-up periods but the ones which were not (say 100+) picked up were immediately allotted to people of a waiting list at the school… Honey, there will be no second printing of this agenda I am told. All 4,000 copies have been taken and since it is date sensitive, running a second printing would take delivery into January. Gigi, glad you found the place. Onie, yes, your sister was tongue-tied, heehee.

  52. JUN AND MARET B, if you read this, please search your yahoo emails for an email from me. I am concerned it will get put into your spam or bulk folders and you won’t get the message…Many thanks!!!

  53. Am I in your waiting list, Marketman? You said you will let me know if I can avail of the unclaimed brown books. Thank you.

  54. Dear diary (aka Little Brown Book),

I am very glad I found you last Saturday. You were in a place which was not very easy to find but.. lo and behold, MM and Mrs MM were there to give you away (together with the shirt). That was a lucky day for me.

    MarketFan

  55. Please let me know if there are any unclaimed items – I’d like to buy! I wasn’t able to order …

    Happy holidays!

    Cherrie

  56. MM, I didn’t want to seem like “indianera” bec. I wasn’t able to pick up my book. *sigh* I was only able to leave for PCPD at 2pm . Malas lang to be stuck in traffic. Thank you for letting us know there was a wait list . I was worried Mae would have to find buyers again (seems like many of us are still clamoring for the brown books).

btw, coming from the side of Pasong Tamo ext. near Fort Bonifacio was better, since the sign outside the compound was more visible vs. coming from EDSA. I was about 100m away when I saw it.

  57. got my tote and book last sat and saw marketman….gosh!!!
    am still awestruck!!!
have already started using the tote which is very handy and since it it foldable, i have gotten used to putiing it inside my handbag for unexpected purchases.
the book is a real find!
thanks marketman for letting us help others thru this!
