Lechon with Shades… :)

Lechon a la John Lennon. Cool, huh?! :) That’s what the nephew of long-time reader, Bubut, called this Zubuchon that they ordered for Manila delivery a few days ago. I am so happy the lechon arrived in good shape (hours in transit and a stint in a near freezing cargo hold aren’t always kind) and they report the skin remained crisp for several more hours. December is traditionally our busiest time at Zubuchon, and we used to send quite a few lechons to Manila. But this year we have been discouraging it, only offering larger lechons for freight orders to the capital city. For one thing, our suppliers deliver much smaller pigs (at inflated prices) in December and January (for Sinulog) so folks think we are sending out bulemic piglets, but there’s nothing we can do about it (we even tried fattening them up ourselves for several more weeks but the costs get prohibitive), so we stopped offering the youngest and lightest specimens during the holiday rush. I can’t wait until we have a Manila location so folks can get the lechons hot and at their finest. At any rate, if you wish to order a lechon for Manila airport pick-up, please call our Cebu office during regular office hours at 032 254 7342 and look for Yolly who can send you all the relevant details. I think December 23rd, 24th and December 31st are already fully booked. We are closed on December 25th (despite it being one of the busiest days for most restaurants) so our staff can have a restful Christmas. :)

  1. Speaking of lechon, we (me and my SO) were in Cebu last Nov 29 and we had lunch at the Escario branch along with a couple of friends who are Cebu transplants. The food was good and reasonably priced. The staff was attentive (a little too attentive by my standards but that’s just me ;D) and friendly.

Additionally, you came in with your wife. My SO was egging me to approach you to introduce myself (and get a pic :P). Alas! I got cold feet… Maybe we’ll see you again next time we’re in Cebu.

  2. Ed B., please say hello the next time. It’s always nice to meet a marketmanila reader. I am running into them in all sorts of places these days, and it’s always a pleasant exchange of kindred spirits. :) Probably on that same trip, a lady and long time reader now based in Paris came up and said hello… it was so nice to put a face to name… and she was with the doctors from France volunteering in Leyte, so it was particularly meaningful to have met under those circumstances…

  3. Ha, ha, ha – piggy-cute. Happy to enjoy your sense of humor this morning, MM.
Blessed Christmas to your family and staff and the entire MM circle.

  4. Zubu-COOL!!

Not me. I will, without shame, tap you on the shoulder, introduce myself and request a “picture picture” (not to be shared). Maybe a ‘selfie’, like POTUS, et al…

  5. We attended the Sinulog two years ago and I purposely brought my friends to one of the Zubuchon branches. Happened to see MM and introduced myself and I can attest that he took the time to chat with me and my friends even though the place was jumping silly. MM even kindly gave us a jar of his calamansi marmalade gratis to taste when we said we couldn’t bring a jar back home since we only have carry-ons and were concerned that we couldn’t bring a jar or two on board because of flight regulations. MM – that kindness won’t be forgotten. Thank you!

  6. Can’t wait to have Zubuchon in Manila. My Mom, brother, nephew and i (hubby was unfortunately out of the country at that time) went to Cebu 2 Decembers ago just to try that famed lechon. We had three meals in Zubuchon during our 2day-stay but only spent 1/8 of our plane fare to pay for the meals and the pasalubongs (jams, chicharon and lard) hahaha. Too bad we didn’t see MM – i would have told him in person the trip was well worth it and more!

  7. MM, please please please seriously consider opening a Zubuchon branch in Manila. It would be a wonderful Christmas gift to us Manila based readers.

  8. Zubuchon in Manila this 2014 pleeease!

If I may digress, I was in Greenbelt 1 last Friday and I chanced upon a newly-opened small resto named “Bellychon”. They’re serving boneless lechon. Wanted to try the food but the place was full (I think there were only about 4-6 tables). Thought of Zubuchon. :)

  9. Can’t wait for the Zubuchon in Manila!
And just like the other readers, I got star-struck too, MM, when I saw you at the parking lot of S&R Taguig several months ago. Napa- “OMG, si marketman!” ako and my kasama wondered kung sinong artista ang nakasalubong namin. Haha!
