Ironman/Ironwoman Cebu — Hotshots! :)

I was watching the biking segment of the ironman competition in Cebu a few minutes ago, just outside the Radisson Hotel, and recognized two folks who whizzed by me when I didn’t have my camera on. So I waited about an hour for them to bike onto Talisay, turn around and get back to the Radisson. I managed to snap a couple of shots and I rushed up to my room to post them here… more photos of the race later. Up top, a very competitive and intense looking Fernando Zobel (I am pretty certain, unless he has a clone in the race) who was by this stage about 10-15 minutes ahead of the most flamboyant contestant…

…whose bright pink skirt made it easier to spot her from 300 meters away on her way back from Talisay…

…none other than Tessa Prieto Valdes… who was smiling and looking ever so relaxed… Tessa is Mrs. MM’s and my age, so brava to her for competing!! I know I couldn’t even finish the swimming leg of the race, let alone bike 90 kilometers and run another 20+ kilometers! I think Tessa did the biking leg, her hubby the swimming leg, and son the running segment — in a family relay. Amazing. Both Tessa and Fernando are still on their bikes as I post this… :) Don’t worry Tessa, I have the original photos which I can send you for your album. Kudos and congratulations to all 1,700+ contestants in today’s race! :)

P.S. The Cebu race is actually half of a real Iron Man Race, with each segment half the length of the full race.

  1. Ms. Tessa is always a sight to see during races. Her tutus are always easy to spot and reminds the rest of the runners that, hey, it’s just a race!

  2. How was your day MM?

  3. robin, no, I couldn’t tell him apart from the others whizzing by… :( The Teen wanted to send him a complimentary lechon since he tweeted he wanted to try some lechon… :)

  4. I don’t think anybody really saw him at the race. No photos anywhere. Hmmm…

  5. MM, my family & I were there to support my husband. We also ate in Zubuchon in Mactan. Super good! Thumbs up for the excellent service. We also have some take home lechon fr the airport. Can’t wait to try that too.

As for Jenson Button, yeah– I didn’t hear the emcee mention him. But I did see him post race at the finishers lunch. :)
