Marketman is/has a pain in the neck. A real wicked royal pain in the neck. So bad I can hardly move my head. Despite pain killers, muscle relaxants and salon pas, it is still getting worse. Imagine a low voltage electric shock every single time you move your back. Now I know how torture in my old age will be defined. So I am taking a little rest from my laptop as I suspect surfing/blogging is part of the cause. That, of course, and the fact that the busy holiday season, when I was 3x as busy and active meant I was in the pink of health, but now that it’s a bit more relaxing I have managed to get a mild flu and now this. When we first moved back to Manila many years ago, I got a strange virus that attacked the muscles of my back and I was in pain for months. Yikes, let’s hope it isn’t that again. So it’s going to be quiet around here for a few days. Amuse yourselves with the archives. :)

Sounds like an impinged nerve. Might a soft collar help? Get well soon, MM!

do you know a good acupuncture doctor? it’ll help if it’s a pinched nerve or for any sort of muscle pain. speaking from experience.

Take care, MM. I hope the pain will go away soon!
Could it be that your workstation is not ergonomically designed (e.g. incorrect height of computer monitor, uncomfortable chairs, incorrect posture, etc)? In our office, ergonomics is something that is taken very seriously because of the chronic health effects (e.g. repetitive pains). Sometimes we think that neck pain or back pain is normal because of spending long-time in front of the computer or doing our daily tasks. But honestly, these pains can be completely elimated or reduced if our work area is designed for us (and not us adjusting!). Check how you can improve your workstation (including your kitchen) – small adjustments can make very big difference.
have you tried the Nugabest.. they have a branch in Market! market! at the 4th floor.. its a bed where you lie for 40 mins and the machine at the back rolls back and forth working slowly with heat on you spine.. very relaxing and for sure it will cure your pain in the neck and all over your body.
Hi Marketman,
Try accupuncture. I used to go to this clinic called Beijing Tong Ren Tang in front of ADB. Its a branch of the oldest clinic in China. I am sure that you can find the contact details on the net. You can try all other sorts of palliative methods such as reflexology and chiropractic just make sure that you are treated by an expert.
My sister had the same symptom. Like yours, it could not be relieved by pain relievers, muscle relaxants and rehabilitation therapy. A touch from Mang Eddie (from Pangasinan) relieved her. She returned the neck brace to the drugstore before she could use it. Of course these things are a matter of faith. Get well soon.
hi, there
would you like to try myotherapy? new manila area has a very good place i would like to recommend. Bettercare. try rex or rey.
aw, MM is out of commission, how sad is that. We’ll miss you, but take the rest and get well soon! Back and neck problems are really such a hassle. I have been with a chiropractor twice a week for the entire month of December because of low back problem. I thought I was getting old, and it’s such a surprise to realize I can still move lols He adjusted my back and gave me exercises to do at home twice a day.
Hope you get the proper care, and have fun on your temporary hiatus from blogging! :-)
i’m sure you’ll be back soon… blog withdrawal might be harder to cure…
i wish you a quick recovery!
hope you’ll get better soon!!!!take it easy MM!
get well soon MM
Take a good well deserve rest !!!!
Take a well deserve rest !!! God bless
MM, like APM I highly recommend Beijing Tong Ren Tang for accupuncture. The doctors are from Beijing. They have Eastern Traditional Medication there and they concoct your own medication based on the herbologist. I came to know of them from my Western OBGYN who sought them out for his son’s asthma. I now see them for my asthma and am now steroid free for 2 years now and have not had an attack since I first started seeing them. I have survived Spring without my allergy pills and have enjoyed the outdoors. Aside from that I had pain in my lower back which would radiate down to my leg. I had this pain since HS. The accupuncturist said that it was a pinched nerve. I am now pain free and meds free for 2 years now!
ouch! I can imagine the pain… rest and get well soon,MM. You deserved the much needed rest!!! Accupuncture can help eliminate nerves that have been blocked or “naipit”. Agree with them 200%.
aaaaawwwww. Take it easy MM. And I thought you’d be here for Sinulog!! ! Anyway, will party for you…..PIT SEYNOR!!
Feel better and baby your neck. You only have one neck!
…praying for your speedy recovery, MM! Though hubby is a health professional who relies on science more than anything else, he believes in traditional medicine ( Chinese blood in him!)or the holistic approach…such as acupuncture, REFLEXOLOGY (for which I am preparing to take courses on it). …have you given those a try?
Meanwhile, Sister…how wbout it…your little brother is out of commission for a while, maybe you can take over ….you are a jet setter like him….your travels, FOOD!!!!!

get well soon MM.
Hello Marketman,
Take it easy and get well soon. The same thing happened to me before New Year’s eve. I took a viagra pill and did not swallow it quick and guess what? I had a stiff neck all New Years’day. Ha, ha just trying to cheer you up :>)
MM, try to get an OTO Bliss, my hubby says that it is the best S$200+ dollars he has spent in his life. It is a roller massager that you can adjust from your head to your back, either forwards or backwards with an heat button if you want it warm. It is not the vibrating massager, but something that really feels like fingers pushing on your skin. (My hubby wanted the OTO chair, but that was over S$3K.) I’ve been sneaking in some use myself since my shoulder has “malamig na ugat.”
I experienced something similar a year ago. The pain and stiffness was not relieved by any painkillers. I decided to go to an acupuncture clinic on the top floor of Mercury Drug in Glorietta 3. It was like voodoo, 90% of the pain and stiffness of my neck and back was gone. The eastern medicine doctors there are topnotch, from Beijing. You should try it.
Have a good rest, relax, have a good massage and don’t worry we will be waiting for your return. In the meantime we all have lots to read in your archive.
get well soon MM!
Please get well soon. Get some well deserved rest.
Get well soon MM! Sr. Sto. Niño will heal the pain. Pit Señor!!!
get well soon MM!!
Get well soon, MM!
Relax and recharge MM!
Take a good rest MM!And if the pain is still there, seek professional medical help to get a good diagnosis before trying anything that might compromise the condition.Although I do believe that accupuncture does ease impinged nerves.A neck collar will avoid further pain and damage.Get well soon!Dont worry we will be allright with the archives.Health is wealth!
get well soon! :)
Get well soon MM….
get well soon.
I have a condition called cervical spondylosis, a degenerative condition of the cervical bones in the neck. It’s quite common and the best way to get rid of the pain when it acts up is through a device called a neck traction, wherein a machine pulls your neck to relieve the pressure on the nerve. Just go to the rehab clinic of any hospital and they should be able to help.
MM, you might want to consider seeing Mr. Ongsio — Room 805 Cosmopolitan Bldg., Juan Luna St., Binondo, Manila. Clinic hours: 8-12, 1-5, Monday-Saturday. Fee: P150. Cosmopolitan Bldg is along that strip between Starbucks Juan Luna and Juan Luna Mall. The buildings around are wholesalers of underwear,t-shirts, etc. so it’s easy to find. It’s on the left side of Juan Luna facing Divisoria. Sorry, I don’t have the building number with me now.
Just have him examine your neck. In 2004, I started having a terrible right leg pain that made it difficult for me to walk so I went to see an orthopedic surgeon in St. Luke’s. The doctor said I had osteoarthritis and prescribed pain killers. The pain killer gave me hyperacidity attacks so I stopped taking it.
In 2007, my son took me to Mr. Ongsio who declared that the cause of my right leg limp was “natapilok ka & nalamanan na”. A traditional hilot from Bohol told me,”Natakilpo imo tiil ug naundan na.” I remembered vividly the afternoon when I was natapilok. Mr. Ongsio massaged my right leg and foot using a liniment from Xiamen and suggested that I kick my right leg every day. I still visit him when I go to the Binondo-Divisoria area. The pain is gone and only comes back if I walk long distances carrying a heavy load, as in marketing.
That’s my long journey to wellness. Get well soon.
Needles, for Marketman? All he needs is a trip to Paris… works for me.
hope you feel better soon MM!

MM, I went to Mr. Ongsio today and got the contact details:
553 Cosmopolitan Bldg., Rm. 815
Juan Luna St.,Binondo, Manila
tel. 241-2438, 324-8410
I tried many things to get relief from my leg pain — Arcoxia, hilot, bentusa, etc. It was Mr. Ongsio’s Chinese hilot techniques which did wonders. Get well soon.
Hoping for your speedy recovery…..
I suggest a visit to a chiropracter would most likely help.

listen to moni, MM…worked for her! will keep that in mind, moni…..hahahha, sister….
at least, MM’s banner is marching in a parade.
Get well soon! Give Beijing Tong Ren Tang a visit. I went there several times with my mom. I was more impressed by the atmosphere of competence and professionalism there than in Western hospitals here. With 5,000 years of history I think they know what they’re doing more than Western medicine practitioners. Their medicine is kind of pricey though, and I hope you like herbal concoctions!
MM. Ditto on all the get well soon stuff but really get well soon na and post more stuff. I am getting withdrawals and have been checking multiple times at work to see if there is something new! I feel sort of like an addict that has been cut off! Cheers!

MS MM—how’s hubby?
Ohhh..PS…looked at the vanilla infusion I started with the vodka and vanilla pods (after Mm made his post)I started Dec. 14—-looking good. The entire lower half of the liquid is now dark brown and the upper half has taken a brownish hue even after just over a month….wheeee….it’s like a science experiment…except I get to use vanilla i made later on.Thanks MM!!Just updating….
hey, get well quick :)
bitaw, make sure you visit your md & take a good rest…
wl just be around. :)
get well soon MM. God Bless.
If it’s muscular it may respond to local heat; I wonder if your hands are affected? (pins and needles, hand weakness?)
I hope you get better soon, if not a medical consultation may be useful. It sounds like a condition called “torticullis”, which can respond to heat and manipulation, but you may have to rule out other causes if it persists.
Best wishes for your speedy recoverey.
Sorry you’re not feeling well, MM.
Try one of those air-activated heat pads/wraps, such as Thermacare. It helped me, in addition to the muscle relaxant and pain meds I was given when I had an attack like yours a couple of years ago.
Hope you feel better soon. You’ve been missed.
Hey Ms. Walangkaparis: if you want your pecan pie to go in a pfft instead of pfffftt! …follow mysuggestion regarding the syrup and the Butter Pecan Extract on top of following the butter suggestion…that to me is the definitive Pecan Pie!!!…ask your daughter to include it (the syrup and the Butter Pecan Extract) in your next BB box.
Get well soon po! God bless!
This is the longest you’ve been offline due to an illness MM. Really hope you get well soon.
i’ve always been a lurker and i haven’t posted anything in your site but i felt i had to share this with you sir MM. might relieve you of your neck pain. for me it was a case of severe lower back pain last month and i had trouble getting up from bed. pain in my lower back was so excruciating.i had an appointment with a chiropractor(dr. jameson uy ) at the jollibee centre at one san miguel ave. contact # 6334204. he said i had compressed vertebrae that had to be corrected or something to that effect i forgot the exact term.but after the session i was really relieved. he comes highly recommended from a lot of the cockpit and cabin crew in the airline i work for. maybe you’d like to give it a try and come see him. hope you’re feeling better.
flying mom, thanks for that, and also to everyone else who have posted their medical practicioners and other healers. Many thanks indeed.
1-A good orthopedic surgeon might be able to help your condition. There are good ones in Cardinal Santos and UST pay hospital. Dr. Tyrone Reyes over there is also good with rehab science.
2-Rationalize your meds.
3-Stick to veggies and salads for a few days. A good amount of salabat may clear the virus up in your neck… If it is viral, it could last for about 5-10 days maybe…3 Wearing a neck collar may maybe helpful plus consult the doctors what is the best NECK POSITION to rest the joints in the neck that are inflamed… possibly.
4-Accupuncture could also help that condition.
1. Chiropractic adjustment could cure you
2. Maybe you have allergic reactions to some food, find out which food you are allergic to by feeling if the neck problems have aggravated..then do not eat that food
3. Maybe you have also allergies to molds or chemicals that are present in your living nevoironment
4. Go to a good acupuncturist it could help
5. Get a good shiatsu massage
6. Drink plenty of good water [filtered] with a pinch of sea salt …
9. eliminate coffee sugar and junk foods in your diet
10. Massage top of your foot…not the sole or get reflexology
12…eat fresh organic food
