Just a quick note to say I am up and about, but operating at say 70% vs. the 120% I am normally on at this time of year. I have a bronchial issue, a recurring one that usually hits October/November every year but this year it has come later and more virulently, so I haven’t been myself. Add to that the recent trips, restaurants opening, office parties, and now, Christmas looming like a wild freight train that has lost its brakes, so saying I am “overwhelmed” is an understatement. :) But it’s Christmas, and MM has NEVER “missed” one yet, so I simply have to light a fire under my butt and get cracking! Posts on the Zubuchon Christmas party up next… it was a blast, and exactly what I needed to pump up the Christmas spirit. Thank you to the dozens of readers who have emailed and texted… I am fine, just not all there. :)

Get well soon :)
Get well soon…you do need a much needed rest for all the happenings that you have been to. We will be patient in waiting for your posts…your health is more important than keeping us updated (although we will definitely miss it).
MM, I’ve been missing your posts. Everyday, I check on your website just to see if you have new posts. :) Market Manila is as essential as a broadsheet newspaper to me, though I read it online. I should have a dose of it everyday. That’s why I’m quite alarmed when you have not been writing your posts recently. Merry Christmas and looking forward to your yummy posts… :)
Take good care of yourself MM. There’s only one MM and last time I checked spare parts are not available. We, your readers can wait and are patient. So have a good rest and get better soon!
Rest up and get well soon MM! Maybe you can tone down your Christmas activities this year in lieu of your condition. Don’t stress yourself too much. Besides, the essence of the holidays is to spend quality time with your family and friends and you can do that even if the food that you prepare or the activities you do are less bongga than normal.
MM, sorry to hear about your health issues. I got thru something similar my self after getting exposed to cigarette smoke and smog filled Beijing.
If you are up to it, here is a concoction which you may want to try. Ingredients are all in your larder and it can’t harm you, unless you are allergic to any of the ingredients. Just don’t take it before a party.
Whether folklore or not it is even claimed some of the ingredients ( garlic for example ) helps with hypertension and cholesterol control along with some anti inflammatory effects. My friends swear by it and claim they had nary a cold since they have been ingesting it:
1 part grated garlic
1 part grated ginger
1 part freshly squeezed lemon or calamansi juice ( I like calamansi better actually)
1 part cider vinegar
2 parts honey
Blend or process to a smooth liquidy preparation and save in a bottle. Take one tablespoon twice daily after shaking the mixture well. Have a glass of water to chase the concentrate.
Start with a small batch just in case you don’t like it, but then, you can always use it for roast chicken rub or marinade…..just don’t forget the salt, he. he.
My friend also claims the morning after ( nature’s call, not the pill) is a smoother process.
Get well soon and looking forward to more holiday posts when you are back in the real swing of things.
Take it easy Mr. MM and get well soon.
Oo nga, MM, it wouldn’t hurt if you slowed down a bit. Just a little bit… :-)
Just take in lots of fluids and supplement with vitamin C. Have you seen a pulmonary specialist yet, MM? It might be bronchitis or an allergic thing, since it occurs quite regularly….. Get well soon!!!
get well soon! Merry Christmas to everyone!
I have the same ailment right now and feel soooo lousy. I did the warm ginger, lemon drink before hitting the sack and fever broke a few hours later but still feeling under the weather…Get well soon!
Get well soon, Marketman! My day is not complete if I don’t get to read your posts.
Get well soon MM! I missed your daily posts!
Get that needed rest, MM, you do deserve it after the hard work you do not only at Zubuchon but also in this blog which is always a pleasure to read and very useful.
Good health vibes are being sent your way… :)
Hope with the rest that you get back to 100% as quickly as possible ( 120% not sustainable).
I always take the Ilog Maria honey bee propolis before breakfast. It boosts your immune system and is really effective in fighting the onset of infection. It has been very useful especially this season when the weather brings all sorts of colds, flu viruses. Maybe it could be of help to you. They have a very effective website and deliver the goods to your home. Get well soon po!
We miss your post but good health is more important. Get well soon. Holiday Cheers to you and yours!
I always assumed this was because you’re a veritable whirlwind of accomplishment during the holidays.
Take Care!! Get Well Soon.
MM,
I just saw you today @ S&L (I was at Brera buying things for my pasta tonight), I was afraid to approach you because you seem so serious… :-)
Hope you feel much better
get well soon MM
Anne, you should have said hello… You would have seen what was for several Christmas dinners lined up in the days ahead… Spent more than I had budgeted. :)
Get well soon, MM. But never too under the weather to shop for food! Will eagerly await your posts during this favorite time of the year!
For coughs, bronchitis, etc, the Chinese advise to refrain from fried and/or oily food, dairy products and “heaty” fruits, eg, mangoes, pineapples, etc. This advice actually works. Hope you get well very soon, MM!
Do get well soon, MM!
Hoping you can get your needed rest for recuperation, MM! Looking forward to the Christmas and New Year posts =)
Got hit by a bad cold as well, which I always get around this time of year. I found out that airconditioning plays a big role in getting a cold. If the air is too cold and dry while you sleep, you’ll be more prone to colds especially if you wake up with a dry throat. The solution in my case was to get an inverter airconditioner which has very precise controls. This way I can make sure the humidity is always around 50%, which they say is the optimal level.
Oh that’s too bad, MM…bronchitis takes a lot out of you. Glad you’re back and with pictures soon! Make sure you take breaks to rest.
probiotics help with immune system. also try just swallowing 1 clove of garlic (smashed or chopped) every night before going to bed with glass of water. garlic is a natural anti-oxidant and immune booster. hope you feel better!!
I wish you well MM. Take care!
get well brootha!
OH GREAT — YOU’RE BACK! BUT TAKE IT EASY …
Hope you feel better soon(er)!
A glass of orange juice (not concentrate) everyday has kept us from lowered resistance and catching all sorts of bugs and viruses, including the dreaded cold and flu virus during the season(s). I have been doing this for more than 20 years now…
Get well soon MM!Just relax, take it easy and lots of sleep to improve your immunity. And hopefully you’ll be at your best when Christmas time comes!
MM,please get well soon! My thoughts are with you!
here’s wishing you’re back at top speed soon, MM! am sure you’re brimming with hundreds of post materials! merry christmas to you, Mrs. MM, the Teen and the crew!
MM, I hope you got the Mabuhay magazine (December issue- 3 copies) in which you have an article and the November issue which featured Zubuchon. I sent the package by LBC to your office in Cebu. I forgot to track the delivery.
moni, thank you so much for that! I will have to check with the Cebu office to see if they got it. I am back in Manila now… :)
Be well, MM . . . and may you and your family, staff and crew have a Blessed Christmas. Thank you for your kindness and generosity with the wealth of information and ideas you continue to share through this blog. It surely made a dent in a lot of people’s lives . . .
Get well MM. I too have been hit twice this past two months with a virus. Rest. Merry Christmas and Godbless!!!
Maybe you have asthma? I have attacks starting november till january but this year has been my worst so far. It usually starts as a cold and since virus siya usually it goes away with rest plenty of fluids and lots of calamansi juice but it triggers dry coughing and wheezing for a month or two. But this year it became acute bronchitis for me despite antibiotics. Right now I’m on mega-antibiotics and 2 inhalers and sucking lemons hehehe. Hope we both get better soon!
Hi MM, I have been a silent fan for several years already and your blog entires have helped me so much. Just curious though and I hope you won’t mind, did you ever maintain your weight loss from the diet you were on last March? I think that if it was me, I would have such a difficult time as you are literally surrounded by every imaginable food in all sizes, shapes and weight!
I am curious as I am almost 60% sure to pay the same program you took. Hope you can answer my email! More power and the best of health to you..
Kate, I lost 32 pounds total in about 6 weeks. I returned to my usual diet, and ate heavily the last 5 months, and re-gained 15 pounds. I will do the diet again in January for about 4-6 weeks to go back down to where I want. Essentially, I was very happy with the diet, lost quickly and took say 9 months to regain half of the weight while enjoying what I wanted to eat. I suspect a “yearly purge” will be necessary for me as I am, as you say, around food so much. But overall, I still liked the diet, and associate the weight gain to simply eating more than I really should have. Geraldine, yes, it is a form of asthma that comes on at this time of year. The symptoms you describe are similar. I think a combination of the pollution, change in weather, etc. brings this on, almost annually now. Complicated by hay fever allergies as well. It is horrible because you don’t feel totally sick, but it is debilitating, kind of a malaise of sorts…
Thank you MM! and more power to you. Good luck to us!
Now I understand why I can’t have my Market Manila fix these days. Get really, really well soon, MM!!!!

Mabuhay magazine is available online.
Zubuchon is featured on page 30 in the November issue: https://issuu.com/mabuhaymagazine/docs/mabuhaynovember2011
MM’s article is on page 88 in the December issue: https://issuu.com/mabuhaymagazine/docs/mabuhaydecember2011
Marketman you should try echinacea, not for a long period of time though, and Chinese cordyceps as a dietary supplement. They are both said to promote healthy lungs.
