Here’s a video to bring a smile to your day. If you are in an office environment, you may want to lower the volume, before clicking on the link. And just when you thought our prison inmates have lost their minds, click this second video and a third video to amuse yourself somemore… While I normally have almost violent reactions whenever I turn my television on at noontime and I surf through a local channel tv song and danceshow, I actually think this form of organized exercise/amusement is utterly fantastic… Kudos to Cebu correctional facility officials for organizing this… considering these videos have been featured on ABC News, the BBC, etc. and viewed in excess of 1 million times,… Cebuano inmates will have their 15++ minutes of global fame yet!!!

I’m just amazed how they were able to discipline 1,500+ inmates to do synchronized dances and marches. Try doing that in the US prisons there’ll be gang fights erupting in every corner. I think I’ve spent at least 30 minutes watching the other videos from the links you had, MM.
The Cebu inmates have been extremely popular lately, all if not most of the news media here in the US have them featured. Really cool.
I still can’t help wonder if that facility is a bit overcrowded though, or the courtyard just too small. At any rate Kudos indeed!
My favorite is the Algorithm March. How come you didn’t include that? I sent the link to my sister in Nebraska and her husband (he’s Polish) thought it was a hoax. They had to google it to confirm. BTW, I’m addicted to these videos. The melody of the Algorithm March just goes on and on in my head.
I can imagine what this years xmas party programs will be like.
It is quite a surprise that only after a year that they got great(and bad) feedbacks (international though).Btw, the CPDRC is unlike most detention facility in the country…my brother who have been there and saw them perform those exercises said its a hi-tech facility, clean and overall, its rehabilitation programs are really great.
We Filipino are naturally talented. If you go to any popular nightspot around Asia chances are the main performer their will be an all Filipino Band.
ang galing talaga ng Pinoy!!
impressive how that many people managed to keep their lines straight and move in sync.
kaso, SINO yung ‘victim’ ng mga ‘zombies’ dun sa Thriller video?! is he an inmate too? sana he dressed differently, instead of that white spaghetti-strapped tank top. Or maybe, wore a wig with his chosen outfit.
heeeheee :-)
That Thriller dance was featured here too inthe national news here in Australia.
BTW,the person responsible for all that is the husband of my husband’s cousin hehehehehehehe.
Apparently if you go into youtube and type CPDRC it will take you on a tour around the correctional facility.
At least the Philippines is featured internationally in a good way don’t you agree?
This is such a great display of discipline! Exercise in the form of dancing is always excellent for a healthy disposition. Lik Kongkong, I like the Algorithm March the best too because of each person’s display of focus. I hope a lot (if not all) correctional institutions all over the world follow this creative program. The Cebuanos really have a deep understanding of music and rhythm.
I like the “female lead” character best.
This video has made itself all the way around the world … I even have some of my foreign classmates forwarding this to me via email because it’s such a laugh trip.
Whoa! I have come across this in the youtube (list of most watched videos) but didn’t give it attention as I was looking for something else. Didn’t realize it’s from the Philippines!
I have to agree – this would be the best form of “exercise” for the inmates! Since this is just a correctional facilty, I doubt that they are hardcore criminals(?). So to have them enjoy and have a little bit of a creative break was a great idea!
Yes, it is surfing the internet and putting the Philippines on the map – this time it is a good publicity nothing adversarial.
the female lead character is not a lady, he is a gay and a former member of a dance troup, that’s why he is part of the male inmates.
Kudos to all Cebuanos !
This actually brought tears to my eyes when I saw this… Just looking at the dedication and focus on all of their faces was really great. Specially since I imagine prison to be very much like the one in Prison Break. Sayang, no Wentworth Miller look a like hehehe…
