And the Winners Are…

I was thrilled to see so many folks wanting to risk their lives vying for, winning and tasting and living through Marketman’s kalamansi marmalade. With over 160 comments, and two winners, your chances of winning were roughly 1 in 80; a pretty good probability, certainly better than winning the lotto…heehee. At any rate, on Sunday, The Kid randomly selected the winners, they were both notified by email, and they have both accepted and provided mailing addresses… I think at least one of the bottles was delivered to a Makati office address, while the other will be delivered to Manila, near the Bay, in the days ahead. LBC refused to accept the packages for delivery because it was breakable… so they have/had to be hand delivered by one of my crew. I was going to post the screen names of the winners, but where they work was far more interesting so I won’t give their identities away. The first winner works in the foreign exchange and treasury area of a large government institution (isn’t that just so apropos considering the PIPC SCam post recently?). The second winner works as an attorney working for a government office (gosh, I hope I never end up in the klinker and she is the lawyer on the other side)… Their jobs struck me as being really cool… makes me wonder what all the other commenters do for a living or their vocations… Mrs. MM, btw, was once a civil servant as well… :) I hope you both enjoy the marmalade, and to all the other folks who tried their luck, there will always be a next time… :) Thank you very much for participating in the first Marketman tambiolo extravaganza…

  1. Sayan naman..I was so hoping to have that marmalade for breakfast one of these days.

BTW, I’m an SAHM and by force of circumstance, I’ve been thrown into the mining industry :)

  2. congratulations to the winners, I’m sure they’ll be enjoying your marmalade. :)

  3. Congrats to the 2 winners. Here’s looking forward to the next food lottery — anything in your recipe archive BUT the frogs :-)

  4. If you’re interested in my profession MM, I’m a PR executive by profession. I hope other readers/contest entrants would also provide their profession so you can have an inkling of who your readers are.

  5. Huhuhu, I really have to stop making juice from kalamansi meant for marmalade…

Congrats to the winners, post a description of your yummy breakfast.

Was fun to read what others liked/liked less, triggered lots of oo nga pala, I liked that too!

  6. Congrats Winners! Keeping their names secret is a good idea. Or they might find themselves held up one day not for money but for marmalade! Hehe. I also have been a gov’t employee. I taught Physical Therapy in UP Manila for 8 years! And they were very ‘sad’ when i quit coz they were my “guinea pigs” whenever i had a baking/cooking frenzy. I’m to see that i’m in the popular age range of your readers. =)

  7. This and related posts made me remember a visit to Mindoro where kalamansi groves (?) were grown. I remember them to be huge! It made me wonder where they actually go when all I see are the puny ones in Manila.

    Congratulations!

  8. I WON! I WON! wahoo! i’ve never won a raffle in my life! tahnks again Kid! and MM!

i wanted to post after breakfast tomorrow so i could give my review after having it with some freshly baked pandesal and a cup of earl grey, but i couldn’t help it! i’m OT-ing and was going to make myself some coffee so i figured i might as well give in to my low EQ– took the 14 day old loaf of white bread in our ref (seriously), resuscitated it to edibility in our office toaster, and voila! OT-ing has never been better!

i am no marmalade connoisseur. in fact, i am not a fan at all (though i do like to steal those cute thumb-sized jars of marmalade at nielsen’s breakfast buffets). i’ve always been more of a crude jam/jelly person– butter and jam on toast or peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

but i bull you not that this is really good, and it goes really well with my blacker than black pls do keep me up all night kapeng barako. the consistency seems perfect and the calamansi peels that look like worms are so delightful to nibble on!!! gives that perfect texture. i wish there more though. it brings back memories of gummi worms.

i can’t wait to have it with real bread for breakfast while reading the paper tomorrow!

btw, funny story: my officemates, especially the secretaries here got so ‘kilig’ when The Crew asked for me saying he had a package from marketman. as in ‘atorni buksan nyo na po, dali! sino na kse sya?!” they all got excited at the thought of marketman being a mysterious suitor!!! bwahahahaha

oh and the packaging made it look like it’s worth at least 420 bucks.

my apologies to all those who are dying with envy,
    WINNER!!!

  9. MM, I have been wondering for some time what industries/occupations your readers are in! Maybe you should start a poll specifically for that…or just get everyone to write in and share what they do/where they are.

  10. congrats to the winners…. will wait for the next contest. we had fun and it was worth all the effort.

  11. Congratulations to the winners! Enjoy the yummy marmalade! Now we’re really looking forward to the next contest. Thanks for all these things that you do to engage your readers, MM. More power to you!

  12. to borrow a line from the movie “Transformers,” “no sacrifice, no victory.” i am sacrificing (accepting defeat) now to attain victory later. :-)

  13. Waah! Maybe I should just try doing your marmalade recipe…
    Congratulations winners!

  14. Congrats to my lucky co-government employees! We may not get paid much but we do our share for the country, right?…and at least you guys won marmalade from MM. Sarap ba with toast and sweet butter?

  15. as a consolation…how about an afternoon tea/eyeball so everybody could get a taste of your kalamansi marmalade?

  16. sayang naman im craving for those kalamansi marmalade….i hope to win the next one (hint! hint! we want another contest MM! hehehe…). congrats to the winners you are so lucky! think of us whenever you have those marmalade : )

  20. MM looking forward for your DURIAN post..Congrats to the winners!More power MM. God Bless.

  21. Congrats to the winners and thanks MM for the contest. I had fun participating, even the part where I had to wrack my brains for my answers.

  22. Congratulations to the winners! :) Maybe next time I’ll get lucky. Hope you have more contests like this Marketman :)

  23. Congratulations Winners! Sobrang coveted ang calamansi jelly! :) I can just imagine how it tastes like..the tartness, chewiness of the peels as described by Atty. Winner. By the way, I’m in the fuel trade business with a passion for food and design.

  24. Congratulations to the winners. Since I didn’t win I’ll try to make my own kalamansi marmalade, it may not be as good as Marketman’s pero baka puede na rin. Tamang tama one Pinoy nurse at work gave me a calamansi plant from Lowe’s – may mga bunga na – hihintayin ko na lang lumaki.

I am an office manager for hospice – we provide quality of care for terminally dying patients.

  25. Ooops. Last sentence should have read quality of care for terminally ill patients. Sorry po.

  26. Congratulations to the winners! Sayang, I was hoping I’d win but may next time pa naman, di ba Mr. MM? I’m also a civil servant like most of your “fans” and I work for a branch of government that deals with the allocation of its resources. Reading your posts is my everyday ritual before I start work since I come into the office before 7 am. More power!

  27. hi marketman,
feeling winner na rin ako. fellow civil servants pala ang nanalo. and i work near the bay.

  28. I won, I won too!! So sorry it took me a while to give any feedback on the prized and very much coveted kalamansi marmalade. Here is the final verdict after so many toasts, pan de sal and combinations of different kinds of spreads (burp, burp!!)

Soooo yummy. great with peanut butter, cream cheese, chiz whiz, butter, kesong puti and honey spread (from Bohol Bee Farm). Also tried it with raisin bread from Baguio Country Club. It was really goodah!! Malinamnam… kahit saan ipatong!!! Simot na….

Thanks a lot, MM and Kid for picking my number. I hope to be lucky and win again next time.
