All My Bags Are Packed…

bags1

All my bags are packed, I’m ready to go
I’m standin’ here outside the airport door
I hate to wake up to say, oh my…

But the box has set off an xray alarm
The plane is waiting, but the inspector says what’s in there that may cause some harm?
Already I am so stressed I could die…

So I’ll kiss you and smile for you,
Just let me take my global chef’s knife or two,
Much homemade acharra and a bottle of lambanog…

‘Cause I’m leaving on a jet plane
I don’t know if I’ll ever get a chance to cook these piggies for “them” again
Oh, buddy, I really want to go…

bags2

Hahaha. I am tone deaf. But you get my drift if you are as old as I am… The contents of my checked-in luggage were sufficiently deadly to trigger a few questions… but thankfully, the inspector was incredibly nice and let it all through. Phew, and thank you! (My apologies to John Denver and the song “I’m leaving on a jet plane…”)

  1. Happy Monday MM! Guessing you are in your Bond mood. Where are you headed or are we in for a pleasant surprise???

  2. Good luck on your hosting Bourdain. Hope your segment gets a lot of air time on the episode.

  3. Did you just post this from the departure lounge!?! =) And you actually have the energy to think up these lyrics while waiting? That’s what I call dedication. ;)

  4. Prior to a show, we wish Thespians to “break a leg”, I guess it is just appropriate to wish Chefs “chip a knife” prior to a big cooking event.

So, MM “chip a knife” or two!

  5. Congratulations! It is out in the papers that you will be doing the Cebu segment with Anthony Bordain for No Reservations. I am sure you will do just great. I am hoping we will see you in his show soon. The episodes shown here are just so darn old. Tell us about the whole experience. All of us would like to hear about it. Right folks?

  6. Goodluck MM, I can picture the anxiety, stress and excitement but again the self satisfaction that you get in it will definetely be cherished for a long time.

  7. Hello everyone!!

I started reading this blog yesterday =( And guess what, I opened the “Archives” and really fell in love with everything on it. I used to be in the automotive industry and stopped working so that I can focus in our pasalubong business and learn how to make our major product, plus my husband and i wants to raise a family because we’re not getting any younger. I am not promoting our product, what I am just trying to say is that…reading MARKET MANILA first thing in the morning (round 3am before making our product) is a stress reliever and a morning’s surprise for me. I get new ideas for so many things and enjoy’s with it.

    I can’t wait to see what’s inside MM’s box!!

  8. Good luck, MM! I’m so excited for you. There’s lots of us Anthony Bourdain fans here, and MM fans, of course. And both in one show, wow, can our hearts really take so much excitement and cholesterol! :-)

  9. so the news is out! bourdain and MM together. let me guess — is it lechon a la MM for bourdain?

please give us a detailed account of the encounter. of course we will see his version of it, but we want YOUR take on the same thing.

  10. I am such a big fan of Anthony Bourdain. Just the possibility of bumping into him is enough to excite me. I wouldn’t know how I would actually react if I see him. You are so lucky MM :)

  11. and those piggies must be having their last supper now…. they’ll be back under those same trees tomorrow in another form, i presume, MM?

  12. Your luggage looks like that of a homeless person, you would be right at home on Lexington Avenue.
Wish I were in Cebu with you, sorry I didn’t come to see this stellar event.

  13. *gasp* ANTHONY BOURDAIN and MM!!!! sorry, hihimatayin yata ako! i loooove bourdain and i have been secretly following your blog too! secret lang, because i don’t know how to cook! :P

  15. Wow, MM, you’re the Man. I’m a big, big, big fan of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservation. Tony love them suckling pigs, he was raving about what they served him in Bali (not a fan of oink oink).

    You make us proud dude!

  16. Wow! MM and Anthony Bourdain, perfect combination. With you as the host, Anthony is in good hands. I cannot be in Manila to stalk him in Sofitel but I already Tivo’d the Phillipines trip episode. I can’t wait to watch it! I’m sure you have lots to share when you get back. The suspense is killing me! Have fun in Cebu!

  17. You are one hilarious Ate!..Sister…I wish I had an Ate like you!!!! ….And THANK YOU for the overnight proofing tip!

Wow, MM! …can I ask a favour?…mind asking Anthony Bourdain for an autograph for me?…like the plate he is going to eat on?…I am sure you would want that plate, too? So maybe he can eat on two plates if he has a second helping?…or three or four plates for three or four helpings?

What is really in those boxes?…

  18. ahh thats so funny!!!
so i guess you’re getting your gear ready for the lechon eye ball, right? oh i wish i could be there!

  19. MM,when is the airing of your episode here in the US?will somebody upload it sa youtube or pinoy channel?PLEASE!

  20. Just like EEJ,I’d say “chip a knife”,MM! I’m glad that we have Foxtel here in Australia so I’ll be waiting in anticipation for the AB and MM episode.

    Sister,you’re so loving and funny!

  21. O man! You lucky you MM! Anthony Bourdain is the epitome of culinary coolness. I met him once in a “small crowd” book signing in Chicago back in 2005. He graciously signed my copy of Kitchen Confidential when the book signing was for another book. I did asked him if he’d been to the Philippines, and remembered he said that he hadn’t.

Anyway, looking forward to this episode!

  22. wow, MM. Congrats!

I don’t follow Mr. Bourdain’s show but I will definitely look out for this episode. I hope you’ll be able to let us know when this will air in NY/NJ…

  23. MM. congrats.. hope you can make bourdain forget the lechon he had in.. thailand? You’re a fitting host to parlay the country’s cuisine.

  24. I can’t wait to watch this episode. I hope you’ll do something ‘naughty’ to him , like what Zamir of Uzbekistan did to him..that was hilarious..and of course included in my fave list was his trip to Uruguay , which he called “meatopia” and has the best damn sandwich in the world – chivito!!! Good luck, MM!!!!

  25. Hat’s off to you, MM. Tony Bourdain said that one of the best pork dish he’s had was the roast pig stuffed with spices and basted with coconut water in Bali, in the Indonesia episode of “No Reservations.” Show him what Pinoy Lechon is. And serve him lots of alcohol. :-) Make us proud!!!

  26. Hi MM! Good luck with the Cebu segment, since Mr. Bourdain loves his pork I’ll bet he’ll fall in love with Lechon! And I honestly think that Lechon Cebu is the best! MM, please create him an unforgettable meal. Please make his culinary adventures in the Philippines so memorable that he’ll re-visit in future season! =)

  27. Good luck, MM! I’m sure you’ll do us all proud. Sister, funny comment! Of course, you’re the only one who can get away with that. Hehe. ;-)

  28. ha ha bettyq, we noticed the same thing…sister couldn’t resist that comment about the look of MM’s box..typical Filipino probinsiyano..but that’s not the important thing anyway…we look forward to watching THAT show!

  29. I am so excited for you MM! I love Anthony Bourdain’s show! Can’t wait to catch that episode. One of my fave shows and blog (host) all in one!

  30. HAHAHA! I read your post to the tune of “I’m leaving on a jet plane..” in my head at least. so funny… Anyway, Congratulations and Goodluck on hosting Anthony Bourdain. I’m so excited to watch that show, I wonder though when they will show it here in OZ.

  31. Best of luck and enjoy yourself!!! Please send your visitor my warmest regards ;) I dedicate my first ever out of town driving experience and first ever over-100-kph to him!!!

  32. MM, you are one lucky duck!!!!! They say that each person will have their 15 minutes of fame in their lifetime….You had over 60 minutes total!!!!

You TOTALLY DESERVE IT!!!! You have given sooooo much of yourself to humanity (your charitable work, etc.) …

    WAY to go, MMM!

  33. Anthony Bourdain’s shows are off the FoodNetwork already. I still catch his old segments at the MOJO and Travel channel sometimes. Hopefully someone would catch this segment and off load it on YouTube.

Congrats MM!!!! Now you are really Famoussssssss!!!!
