I should lose a few pounds or so in the next three weeks… ostensibly because we are booked on a small plane for a holiday trip and they may charge me double if I weigh in above the limit. Forget that others with me on the trip are at practically half the weight allowance. But while I hadn’t yet crossed the limit, I didn’t want to take any chances. So over the last 30 meals or so, I have only had rice twice and no potatoes or significant amounts of bread at all. It’s working, and I am now well below the dreaded “limit”. But I figure I should keep going for several more weeks now that I am in the groove, until my pants feel significantly looser. :)
A generous serving of scottish or Norwegian salmon, raw and thinly sliced, drizzled with a dressing of soy sauce, ginger, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil and sprinkled with Japanese pickled ginger and some mustard micro greens. The salmon and plate were chilled in the fridge until dinner, and served cold. Along with that a mixed green salad with a vinaigrette dressing. I don’t consider this diet food.
The salmon was rich with all those good fish oils, the touch of soy sauce and rice vinegar essentially “cooked” the fish in just a few seconds, the little textural change of pickled ginger and slight crunch of micro mustard greens all made for a wonderful dish. The green salad had several kinds of lively greens and a light vinaigrette – a bit of bulk to make sure I wouldn’t get hungry an hour later. And that’s the best way to lose a few pounds…

Just goes to show a lower calorie diet need not be unappetizing or unimaginative. You are actually on a diet without feeling you are on a diet ( a weight reducing one!).
Carry on, MM.
With a salmon dish like that, I’m sure being in a diet is a real pleasure. Keep it up. :)
I trust that you are not flying in a plane anywhere near Malaysia where pilot’s resumés are minutely examined after they fail to show up. Or any airline that allow planes to go on a holding pattern when they reach destination and touch down only when featured movie finishes showing.
Some R&R – always a good prescription – to restore…. have a wonderful holiday, MM and family.
Thanks, Marilen, but I am around for another few weeks until the trip… Footloose, that saga kept me glued to CNN for a month, I feel so badly for the families of the passengers, but I am also personally curious what could have happened. Thanks Paolo and Connie!
With a fresh bagette or any crusty bread and a dry white wine, that is to die for.
the best kind of diet food! i always say diet food needs some oil so it doesn’t feel like you’re munching on cardboard.
Could this be a private plane to Amanpulo?
