Hello MM, glad to know you’re in my favorite city! Just noticed that you went to the ferry building. Hope you get the chance to stop by at the cowgirl creamery store for some good cheese! I’m craving for the Mt. Tam right now. :)
And right beside it (Cowgirl Creamery) is the ACME bread bakery! Did you try the chocolates from Recchiuti Confections?
i really like your pictures…
What a vacay hehe
Best you enjoy the upcoming Oktoberfest for a slice of SF culture, events, and general homeless people debauchery
Wow, market man you’re really a jetsetter=) just by reading & looking pix at your blogsite i could already tour the world also=)
good day to you, MM! nice of you to drop by :)
wow, you’re in CA right now, MM? any chance of an impromptu California EB? ;-)
Wow, my fav market….I am salivating just thinking of Roli Roti porchetta sandwich and the macarons from Miette Patisserie!
Did you go to Boccalone? Love that charcuterie place. And I’m a big Chris Cosentino fan :-) SF is one of my favorite cities!
welcome to my town. the ferry building is the mother lode of accessible fine food from fresh oysters, cheese to the best chocolates.
Have a great time! These little snippets of posts are crazy! Variable reinforcement is one of the strongest training strategies!
Have a great one MM. Am sure you’ll have a lot to blog about later on. o)
Awww…now I am homesick.
When I saw the picture this morning, I thought … better go to the Farmer’s Market, might bump into Mr. MM there! But then, what are the odds? :D.
Aha!! all the more reason you should stay and blog!!! have fun, MM!
Great pic! I hope you a have a great time in SF!
Ah yes San Francisco. I was just there a few weeks ago visiting home in the suburbs…it was a beautiful (and very rare) 90+ degree day in San Francisco when I sat in the back of the Ferry Building w/ my friends enjoying raw oysters. Perfect.
Hello MM! Any plans of going to Restaurant Gary Danko? Please share with us your food experiences in SF :)
Hi MM, We were just there last week, it would have been awesome to see u.
Have fun !
Would love to be back for some Blue Bottle Coffee and any sweet thing at Miete Patisserie… this is certainly a great way to enjoy the sabbatical!
Dude! LOL
How long are you in town for? Are you on an eating tour?
Let’s see… French Laundry in Wine Country, The Dining Room at the Ritz Carlton in the city, and closer to my neck of the woods, Manresa in Los Gatos.
Mid-market there’s Madera at the Rosewood Hotel in Menlo Park’s famed Sand Hill Road (center of the venture capital universe), Sundance (Palo Alto) and Forbes Mill (Los Gatos) steak houses, and One Market in the city.
For places that are much easier on the wallet but are still fantastic, try The Lobster Shack in Redwood City, Opa (Greek) in San Jose’s Willow Glen neighborhood, House of Nanking (Chinese) in the city, Poor House Bistro (Cajun) in downtown San Jose, and Banana Leaf (Malaysian) in Milpitas.
Bazillions of other great places around the Bay Area, of course, but these are the ones that popped into my head right away when I saw your Ferry Building pic.
Speaking of the Ferry Building, the burgers and shakes over there are awesome. I just can’t remember the name of the actual restaurant.
Farmer’s Markets? The one at the Ferry Building is pretty good, but we also have awesome ones down here in Silicon Valley. Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Campbell, and Los Gatos all have excellent ones. There’s even one in Santana Row, I believe.
Drop me a line.
Yo Marketman,
if you ever need a “foodaholic” kind of a guy? then hit me back. I got your back dawgg.
I agree with bagito…impromptu EB…and fried neurons, you forgot one of my favorites…Manresa here in Los Gatos. The Santana Row Farmer’s market has shrunk, but there is a fabulous open air tequila bar and restaurant at the end. Consuela’s Mexican Tapas (at Santana Row) used to be good, now it’s just okay. Have fun in the Bay Area. Just remember NOT to drive during rush hour traffic!
Bi-rite Ice Cream – salted caramel – if you are ever in the MIssion Dolores area. Definitely a must-try, no matter how long the line is ;)
Too many good eating places to recommend, but do share your adventures with us. Some treasures worth trying that may have not yet been recommended – Little Star Pizza (Valencia St, off Mission between 15th and 16th) and Monk’s Kettle (along 16th, also off Mission).
Have fun! Looking forward to reading about your SF finds.
Yes Artisan, the ACME bread is good with the cheese from Cowgirl Creamery. Love the chocolates too from Scharrfen. Fried Neurons, are you talking about the Gott’s Roadside burger?
Wow, you are in my side of the world! Don’t you just love the Ferry Building Farmers’ Market?
Strange but I was at a wedding reception aboard The Cabernet Sauvignon Commodore last Saturday night and was thinking about the Farmers’ Market there in the neighnorhood and thought “Marketman should visit and blog about a visit here” … And there you are!!!
Were you at the wedding too? :)

Fried neurons- There is also an Opa’s in Los Gatos, same family, second location, same price. Kvd… I have a certain obsession with buying the scharfen berger cacao nibs and eating them alone…I am a chocoholic. If it was a Saturday morning, the farmer’s market circles the building. I eat at the marketbar when I visit the farmer’s market…Maybe I might have caught a glimpse of marketman?
Enjoy the early fall weather!!
ohhhh, my favorite city, in my favorite season! i can almost smell and feel the fall air!
Hi Everyone, thanks so much for the tips. We were only in San Francisco for three days, and one of them spent in Palo Alto, so I didn’t post beforehand to get your suggestions for meals as I knew we wouldn’t have much time to really dig into the food… I know there are a lot of readers in the area… thanks!
Ferry Building…heaven on earth.
will you be in the East Coast soon??
Some of my happiest time-alone moments were spent at the Ferry Building Marketplace on a weekend morning, just grazing through the luscious produce, gazing and taking photos, enjoying the company of families, dogs, strollers. Lunch at the San Francisco Sourdough Company just across the Building, yummy but healthy (or at least I pretended it was healthy after the brisk walk from my hotel).
And don’t forget to pay a visit to La Sur La Table inside the building! Williams Sonoma is overrated and expensive. La Sur is more customer-friendly, more accessible, wished I could pack everything into my luggage!
Thank you for your wonderful posts and pics!
Remember the old computer game, “Where in the world is Carmen San Diego?” Perhaps we can do a “Where in the US is Marketman?” Sayang MM, I will be in SF on Sept 19 and the New England area on Sept 26-Oct 10. Basin jud magkahinagbo ta. Hahaha. We miss you MM. Ayo-ayo bisan asa ka.
Marketman – just in case you plan to hit san diego, do drop me a line….
Ay ya yay, thought I’d just check in to see how MM is doing and am glad I did. Was afraid to see the “time to leave post” again. Glad you are still around.
Will be in the Sonoma area for 2 days only,2nd and 3rd of Oct. Any tips from the other readers?
Wish there’s a “like” button here MM so if I’m out of words to say then I could just hit it! haha!
J,
No, I didn’t forget Manresa; it’s right there in the first paragraph of my first comment. I love that place so much. Eaten there twice and can’t wait to go again. I can’t get over the magic they do with tomatoes. lol
MM, Welcome to my neighborhood! Yay Area, very nice weather, good looking people , good food (though we pay for it hehehehe and it ain’t cheap).
Downtown Palo Alto has a vibrant downtown, lots of good restaurant and no iconic fastfoods in downtownonly good food heheheee though Pizza My Heart is close to it (Pesto Pizza is very very good)
MM – send me a shout next time your in town. So close. So Close.
Marketman is back…yehey!
So, how was the Ferry Building visit this time around? I imagine more pictures and details are yet to come.
For now, pictures will suffice…..better than nothing at all.Have a great vacation MM!
hi MM! just been to Cebu, have tasted the famous ZUBUCHON! YUM!!!
I haven’t been to SF in years! Time for a visit. . .
Totally missed it sorry fried neurons!!! I should wear glasses more often!
Hi MM you’re in one of my favourite cities. Love the weather at this time of year!
hi MM, i hope you can blog about SF and post some photos as well…that is if you are not busy and if you have some spare time…i really miss this city! have fun in the US! will there be a New York visit also?
wow, i wish we can travel without worries just like you, nakakainggit naman!
Karen et al, it wasn’t a leisure trip for the most part, in and out on family business. No one actually likes doing a roundtrip to the U.S. in a week’s time, I don’t think… :)
You are sooo right, MM about doing a roundtrip to US in a week. …Hubby went on business to Maui…left on Friday and back on early flight on MOnday to go to work!…hilong-hilo!
Oh no! I would have loved to be part of an impromptu EB with you, MM! Just like the suggestion of the other readers. I live in the Bay Area so that would have been perfect. Hope you come back next time!
hi mm, it’s always a pleasant surprise whenever i read a new post from you. i pray for your family’s safety and good health always. God bless.
Nice! We were here last July and had some good buys. Also saw Rufina Patis being prominently displayed at one of the fish stores :)….
i miss SF. i used to live there before moving to the DC area – then here in germany. siiiiiiigh.

One of my favorite places. I crave for the oysters at pacific hogs by the ferry building.
