  1. Wow! You look great MM :-)

By the way, the last link does not work – it says that I don’t have the permission to preview drafts…

  2. What a beautiful place to be with your loved ones. Thanks for the post, Mr. Bond. :) Unfortunately, I could not play the theme song, it says “could not load movie”. Not sure if I’m the only one who have experienced this. The last link could not be opened as well. But no problem, the photos and your write-up are just enough to make my day. :)

  3. Stunning views!!! Nice one MM… no worries you still look great even with the added weight.

  4. Nice beach! Too bad, we were already booked for Coron this year, maybe we’ll check out El Nido next year! Thanks MM!

  5. Love the beach! Hope they can preserve its natural beauty. By the way you do look good :)

  6. can’t seem to find the right word to describe the beach- perfect is an understatement. it looks so tranquil there that i was expecting to hear some “waves” or meditation music from the youtube link … but i like the JB music link although sean connery comes to my mind than DC

don’t worry about being 13 lbs heavier… even my hubby was complaining about his weight but was happy to share that even DC looks a few lbs heavier in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo :D

  7. the music ended first before I finished reading this post, I was amazed with your photos.

  8. Wooooohooooo beach and JB !!!!! I hade to replay song – got stuck again drooling at the first “Bond” photo :-)

  9. wow eksakto ang music sa ending ng post and whaam, JB in flesh (photo) bagay sa yo MM maging James Bond, super kilig ako…

  10. You know this is a password protected post when MM posts a Bondesque photo of himself, lol. I’ve always been a fan of Palawan and it’s pristine beauty… Sigh, hope to go back soon. Our big summer getaway this year is Cebu and thereabouts. Some cracklin’ pig is on the itinerary :)

  11. Don’t worry about the weight. You know what the experts say: muscle weighs more than fat:) !

  12. Haven’t been to El Nido, but Coron’s Island Hopping destinations can be as beautiful… One just has to carefully choose the organizer, so you know which dishes they will be serve for lunch. With settings such as these, any kind of food will taste great anyway….

And you also have Kayangan Lake, Maquinit Hot Springs, Mount Tapyas – all very unforgettable…

  13. ‘Could not load movie’ is what popped up. Nice white sands! I would love to take a beach vacation, but no free time :(

  14. Wow, what a breathtaking view…will include El Nido in my must-see places to visit…soon!

  15. looking great!! you could be a stunt double for DC,in 007 movie:):):) DC purposely gained weight for the girl with dragon tattoo for the character.

  16. the beach really, really looks good. makes me wanna pack my bags, buy a ticket and head there myself. arrggh!

and by the way Mr. MM, you are looking good.

  17. 2nd treasure on this secret club:
    MM as JB!!!!!…………….Justin Bieber 30 years from now???….Joke!!!! :)
    Amazing views!

  18. I’ve always wanted to visit El Nido. I haven’t been to the beach in five years! Must do something about that soon.

  19. hahaha…that music set the mood! this is a lot of summer fun! (hmm..have used “fun” in my comments here several times this week ;-)

  20. it is places like this that makes the philippines a real paradise. it was well worth the effort of tracking the password to arrive at this. thanks.

  21. crushing on you with that last photo! just how JB would look if he were in the water ;-)

  22. Nice pictures… I do hope that I can also bring my weight down close to my ideal weight. So that I can pose to the camera in the beach with out my shirt on.. Just like you Mr. JB. Hehehe…

  23. i wish to be back to el nido. thanks for the post, i can feel the sand, sea and the wind by just looking at your pictures.

  24. The workout seems to be working.
Cebu and El Nido for our next trip to the Philippines.

  25. So was this the letdown post you were worried about? ;)

Amazing beach! Would love to visit sometime :)

  26. JB in the flesh! LOL! Just do some core exercises and a little diet and you’ll be in JB-form in no time! I use a training video called Rushfit by GSP, might work for you as well. Cheers.

  27. The background Bond theme was a great idea for this post. I absolutely love Daniel Craig too.

Would love to go back to El Nido. Stayed at Lagen in 2004. I hear they changed management not too long ago. Any feedback on their service quality now? Many thanks.

  28. yahoo! made it and read the first password protected post! heheheheeee! thanks MM this is a wonderful and much awaited post! i am actually grinning from ear to ear! :)

  29. You’re looking extremely fit and toned :-)

The beach is absolutely breathtaking. Where do I make reservations for Miniloc and how do i get there? Thanks MM.

  30. Missed going to the beach :-( spent a day here too during my honeymoon :-) El Nido makes you feel you’re their only guest with the attention and privacy they give (staff is around but they don’t intrude)

  31. wohooo, great photo MM oopppsss JB. now you are reminding me to do my share of diet and exercise….lol!

  32. Ang ganda talaga ng Pilipinas!
As always, thank you for sharing the Philippines’ richness.

  33. mission accomplished Bond. James Bond. I have to say that the last pic took my breath away. hehehe! super ganda ng beach!

  34. Whoa! Honestly,I didn’t notice the 13-pound difference! :)
Palawan is one of my dream destination, and now I can’t wait to pack my bags and go there! Nice one, MM!

  35. Great photos, MM! With all the food you prepare, how can you look like that? And, I had to play the JB sound-track twice …

  36. The movie didn’t load for me either. Speechless is all I can say about God’s creation.

  37. couldnt access the link bec of office firewall… great photos…i loved coron but this is way more breathtaking

  38. amazing place! breathtaking view! so after cebu, this will be our next destination. you look gorgeous in your picture, MM.

  39. Looking good MM (“,). The last photo alone makes the password game worth it. I’m so lucky to get that extra BOND push from you to get that WORD . Mr. DC does not have a chance with the Philippine’s version of 007. Reading this posts is the next best thing to actually being there. Thanks for sharing your travels with us MM.

  40. you win mr.mm! this lurker, after years of lurking, played your password game (i got it!), browsed through your archives, and finally posted a comment. your plan on fishing out your lurkers really did work and i am happy that i did. that is one awesome beach! …may the spirit of bond be with you always mr.mm. = P

  41. hey MM — FWIW, the password did work for this post. logged-in with the password for the 1st protected post and wasn’t prompted for this one. so OC me tried opening this post using a different browser and it asked for one :)

  42. Sorry, MM wrong choice of words nagmamadali kasi ako. :) I was supposed to say that the photos were more than enough to make my day kahit wala yung theme song and the other link.

  43. absolutely gorgeous place!!! I have been to El Nido almost 10 years ago…and been wanting to visit it again with our kids.

    great photos, MM!

  44. Your timing (for the music) is immaculate, Mr B ;-) Love the games – and the photos! (And the sawtooth coriander is still going strong – 5 of the six original plants flourishing, with 2 now producing ‘flower’ like seed heads :-)

  45. hey that was my weight way back in college days, 170-175, now obese, am green with envy..

  46. Wow, you have Mr. Craig’s chest….beautiful pictures for this not so simple picnic, impressive…yeah what was lunch?

  47. JB as in “James Bond!” nah, it means “Jxxx Bxxxxxxx!” hehehe you’re the man!

  48. You’re definitely right Bond would have step down from the banca with a cool stance. :-)

It’s a good thing you’re not afraid of getting sunburned…

  49. Beautiful paradise! I should ask my husband to take me there. Philippines first before going any place else!

  50. I was being a lurker till now, was too busy scrambling to make April 17th deadline for my dues to Uncle Sam, but glad I did not have to enter the password again to get to the post. And Footloose beat everybody for the first comment.

MM: If you are 13 pounds heavier, you are till looking good! As they say, it is obscene when you don’t have a little paunch at a certain age.

Halong Bay may have 1,976 islet formations but nothing compares to the pristene waters of Miniloc or Lagen.

  51. wowza! really need to explore our country more! oh, and yes, i did finish reading the entry just as the song ended :)

  52. Amazing beach!

I’m amazed you’re not heavier with all your drool-worthy posts. Looking good, MM!

  53. Will be going to Palawan in May. Thanks for sharing this MM! Eversince I went to Maldives last year and experienced the Kanuhura Resort and the amazing views and beaches that country has to offer, our very own Boracay suddenly deteriorated in my eyes. Thanks to this, I just realized we can compete with them with our very own Palawan.

    Stunning!

  54. Of beaches and Bond. Thanks for sharing a picturesque post complete with the musical score. More to come pls!

  55. Given that I am stuck in the sweltering heat of Manila, those photos are breaking my heart. BUT thanks for sharing them MM because they are gorgeous. Itching to go back to Palawan now.

  56. Darn, I swear while I was listening to the music and then got hit by your photo, I really thought that you are JB himself, no kidding! My officemate was saying, what are your doing and I said watching the preview of the upcoming JB movie :-)

  57. MM as JB (short for “Ju-Buchon”). Kidding!
Even at 13 pounds heavier than your “JB” photo, you look much better than most.
I myself sport the ever trendy “muffin-top”. Hehe!

  58. That was epic. i mean the music. Nah just kidding. You look fine MM. I say dont be deceive by the numbers on that scale.

  59. True-to-life scenario:
Mid-afternoon, inside a fairly crowded MRT coach. Passengers are either bored, pensive or simply spaced-out. Regular sounds of train rumbling, train driver mumbling, people grumbling.

Suddenly, a blaring audio clip: the James Bond 007 original theme tune! It’s somebody’s ringtone. How cool! Passengers are perked up to life, glancing around, seeking out the owner of the ringtone. From within the heap of those jampacked human bodies, as if on cue on the 20th second of the tune, a loud, annoyed, raspy geriatric voice cuts the ringtone: “Heloh! Heloh!”

Everybody breaks into stitches as the hip lolo’s secret identity is betrayed by his ultra-loud ringtone. How surreal!

  60. Nice beach, haven’t seen a nice place like that. thanks for sharing the location.

  61. Breathtaking! Is all of Palawan (more or less) like this or only in certain districts / locales?

  62. Great pictures! Thanks for sharing MM.. Its worthy to get that password if i’ll be able to open posts like this.. getting a glimpse of the hunk JB hehehe…

  63. Really nice place, will remember to request this next time :) Thanks for always sharing your ‘secrets’.

  64. My sister’s friend was at El Nido the same time as Rachel Weisz and Jeremy Renner, and was kind of starry-eyed when their party found them at the bar area. (He posted some furtive shots – RW side view, JR’s back hahaha!) I don’t know if they saw them more often though. :-)

The music was perfect for this post. Hahaha! Lookin’ good MM!

  65. Yes!!!! It’s more fun in the Philippines………We have so many beautiful places…visit them….

  66. Funny! As I was following along to find the password, I re-read some of the posts and thought, “I wonder if MM managed to keep the weight off.” I was going to ask in my comment, but then I’d have gone over 30 words. :-)

If a “good” diet is one that teaches new habits in order to *maintain* weight loss, would you say the diet you went on was worth the money, and was a “good” diet? I’m always searching for the ideal weight loss program!

  67. Lovely photos…aaawww I miss the resort now that I saw your pics. Bringing back memories of a good time there. Would love to go back again. When we left in February, the Bourne Legacy just started to film around the area.

Now I’ll have to read this through again tonight to have the music playing…Altho you gained a few pounds in this photo…you still look good and could pass as JB!!

  68. @PapaEthan, you get the Nobel Peas Prize if I were bestowing it.

Another 007 scene that stays vivid in my image bank is when he unzipped and cast off his rubber dry suit to step out of it in a dinner jacket. That nonchalant cool you observe only in very few actors nowadays. One of them is Alec Baldwin. “why are you wearing tux?” “because it’s after six and I’m not a farmer.”

  69. Awesome place! It’s a piece of tropics paradise. I will take on your tip and head to this destination when I get the opportunity. A perfect place for people like me who misses the pacific waters so much!

And wow on your self-portrait! Amazing! You have been shy to post your photo but this one is one to be proud of! You look ah may zing! :-) very JBish. More post and more photos of you please! lol

    Have a good night!

  70. again, lovely post. i love the beach, and seeing the pictures you featured on el nido makes me want to book the next flight to palawan. ;-)

  71. No square-cut swimming trunks? Haha

I only got to the part about the Teen when the music stopped. The music was kind of distracting hehe. And to think I already read the post at work :P

  72. The beach is stunning. There are still a lot of awesome places to visit and explore in the country. That beach in El Nido would be a great setting for photo ops. And don’t worry about the added weight Mr. MM, you still look good and fit… We do not particularly like Daniel Craig’s built in Girl with the Dragon Tattoo or Christian Bale’s almost skin and bones in The Machinist. As what we look for chicharon, “yung may laman” pa din ang madalas na hinahanap. hehe =)

  73. Nice timing with the music. The song ended just as I read the last word. Was that intentional, or a lucky coincidence?

  74. was at that same resort more than 2 years ago. =) brings back memories.
MM, was there abundant fish and was the reef healthy-looking? where we snorkeled we saw a couple of clown fish (Nemo) and a few others but the reef was quite bleached. i was disappointed that hubby didn’t get to see what i saw more than a decade ago – colorful reefs – at Club Noah, another palawan resort that I hear has been closed for years.
anyway, during our snorkel, i realized that if i put my hand in front of me and rubbed the tips of my thumb and index finger together, it would catch the fish’s attention. they literally came out of their hiding places and looked hungrily at my fingers, probably because of what they experienced in the past. =( but hubby had to tug at me to catch my attention. he said that there was a fish with about an inch long bottom teeth looking at my fingers. heehee

  75. @papaethan – a former colleague set the Psycho shower scene soundtrack as the ringtone for … her boss (whom we all didn’t like).

  76. Hey MM. Next time you’re in Palawan, do check out Long Beach at Brgy Agutaya in San Vicente municipality (just an hour and a half away from El Nido). It’s an 11-km (or 14km?) stretch of pristine and powdery white sand beach reminiscent of Boracay in the 80’s. It doesn’t have the magnificent limestone cliffs but it’s still a beautiful and (un-commercialized) place worth visiting.

  77. Oh btw, I was able to read this post WITHOUT having to punch in the password. Was it because I was able to get into the first password-protected blog yesterday and your website recognized me already?

    Just wondering…

  78. Is there a button to click for “Like”? One other place I wanted to take my Mom to during this visit. Hopefully, next time!

  79. Stunning! The first two photos are something right out of a “Places you’d need to see before you die” list. And the photo of your foot shows fine, fine sand (that would probably rival any on this earth). I’d love to go to that place :D

  80. Whoa! What happened? Last night before I went to bed, there were over 300+ comments. Where’d it all go?

  81. My fault. Sorry got mixed up. I was referring to the post before this. My mistake. My apologies.

  82. I love the idea of the password protected post. I, myself, am preparing to feature a first ever contest on my blog. You have really helped me a lot! I have nothing but admiration for you MM! :)

  83. Wow, MM. You are getting to be more creative with your blog. Nice!

Thanks for sharing this! Palawan is like Europe — everything looks like a postcard! Wonderful to read on a hot day.

P.S. So is this what it took to give away the shirts? You go shirtless from now on? Hehehe.

  84. MM, perfect except for one element – the beautiful women featured in every bond movie. But that’s okay because I imagined them there beside you. One in a bikini with scuba gear and a glass of martini on one hand and the other also in a bikini but with a silver tray full of zubuchon… HA HA HA …

  85. I wish I was able to visit Palawan and Cebu for Zubuchon while I was in Philippines last week. Due to family demands I just couldn’t. Until next time.

  86. Too late… it was too late…. I already click the link when I read “if you are in an office setting” heheheh. Good thing that Im still alone…

Note to self : Must visit Palawan.

  87. Stupendous! Bravo to James Bond of the Phil… JB aka MM!!!!!!! So, MM, are you so over Coron now?

  88. The song ended first before I got to the last paragraph. Woohoo MM, pa-autograph naman! I haven’t been to that side of the island…I hope I can squeeze it in my schedule this May.

  89. indeed MM, you get another “Bond” pic for this summer, hapit na nimo ma apsan si DC..:)

  90. Another place to add to my bucket list! So beautiful! My first time to read a blog complete with background music. 13 pounds heavier you say? You must have weighed yourself after lunch wearing your wet swimming outfit and shorts. You look just fine to me.

  91. woohoo, I’m in! the password worked… Hi MM! I am one of your so called ‘lurkers’. Finally found the courage to comment :) I am currently eating my way through Switzerland and then off to Italy before heading back to Manila. Hopefully, I will now be able to comment more actively :D

  92. Your photos are so gorgeous! I will probably be teary eyed if given the chance to see this place in my lifetime!

  93. I’m so envious! What great pictures of a place I’ve never heard of! Btw, I have an IPad and was not able to open the YouTube link. Oh well. Thanks for sharing!

  94. The pictures make me want to head to the beach. Plus, a bonus picture of you! Lol! Awesome pics! I enjoy reading your journal and I am happy to finally have the password! :)
