SINULOG 2012!!!

I am in Cebu for the Sinulog Festival this year and we are all crazed preparing for the crowds that come to watch the nine-hour parade that snakes through the city with dancers, floats, etc. The Zubuchon Mango store is on the route of the festival, and in an area at the epicenter of late night carousing. I hope to be at that outlet for much of Saturday and Sunday, so if you are headed to Cebu for Sinulog, and would like some lechon, please drop by… If you can’t face the crowds, our two other restaurant outlets will be open to serve you as well. Absolutely NO RESERVATIONS on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays… Many thanks and Viva Pit Senor!!! :)

  1. I know your days ahead will be really hectic from morning till night! Just don’t overwork yourself and try not get stressed out too much. Good luck on the sales of Zubuchon!
    Viva! Pit Senor!

  2. Enjoy and Good luck!!! Wish we are there already to join the festivities…will definitely miss it :( but see you soon Cebu!

  3. MM! Just caught in the latenight news, your doppelganger/ body double/ idol is actually in town! Watching over his wife and making sure she doesn’t get kidnapped. Couldn’t resist to let you know he can apparently be stalked at Malate ahaha, for whatever it’s worth. Happy new year!

  4. My sisters are there in Cebu for the Sinulog right now and they will be back here in the US on Jan. 18. This is their 1st time to go the Phils. since we came here in 1993. I told them to go to your Zubuchon store and buy something they can bring back here some jams or jellies maybe or maybe a zubuchon t-shirt. Viva Pit Senyor!!!

  5. I saw the sign to your Zubuchon outlet in Lapu-lapu when we were there last month. Dropped by Zubuchon on Mango mall for a late dinner on our first night there. We were disappointed the resto was out of lechon by that time ( i think we came in almost 9 pm ) but thoroughly enjoyed the lechon-inspired dishes we ordered. My daughter who was feeling a little bit under the weather since we left the US had a bowl of lechon sinigang to herself! Our server who was Tagalog was a little worried we may have ordered too much, there were just 3 of us, but we took home all the leftovers for us to enjoy the next day. Also enjoyed the last box of budbod kabog on the store! More power to Zubuchon and Pit Senyor!!

  6. Thank you and I have printed the above info for my personal reference on my incoming trip to Cebu. I will definitely drop by in one of your locations. Happy Fiesta.

  7. filet minion – That story about 007 is still unconfirmed. Probably one of the many false stories circulating in connection to the stars presently here.

  8. Hi MM,

Hope to see you on Saturday and Sunday. It will be very busy for the restaurant specially lunch time. Goodluck to everyone. Pit Señor.

  9. MM, I wish I am there to enjoy the Sinulog festival while enjoying the wonderful taste of Zubuchon at ang walang kapantay na Kamias shake.

For those still looking for a place to stay – I highly recommend Island Stay Hotel. Nice clean room with very pleasant and helpful staffs. The hotel staffs during our stay provided us with excellent service; plus the craving for Zubuchon is just a step away.

  10. During my Cebu trip..we all took out several packs of your Zubuchon lechon at the airport stall. Small and cost effective booth. Just a thought though…hope they will one day improve Cebu’s airport….happy Sinulog everyone!!1

  11. Hi Mr. MM,

My friend and I will be in Cebu and we hope we still have enough energy to go after the parade =)

    Cheers!
    Daisy

  13. Getting ready to sleep to power up for the Sinulog festivities! Like every year, it’s going to be one heck of a party!

We’ll also be live streaming the Sinulog festivities. We have someone walking around with a webcam attached to sunglasses (secret agent like). The footage will be streamed here.

Here’s to everyone who is going to miss the crazy. Enjoy! Pit Senyor!

fyi – I am a big fan of Zubuchon. After watching the No Reservations episode and tasting the lechon, it has become one of my favorite meals. Love it!

  14. Viva Sto Nino! Pit Senyor!

MM, my friend owned the resto-bar whose space you took over at One Mango. They left because of “politics” with adjacent bars. But they used to earn PhP 1M during the Sinulog mardi-gras and the evening street party :-)

By the way, saw your pigs being marched from redemptorist church where your van was parked. Very early 8:30 am :-)

  15. Well, finally I made Sinulog.after trying for 4 years to attend! And yes it is amazing the work thathas gone into this event, the people roaming around everyone sort relaxed no huries and enjoying what is going on. Yes, as a Canadian it was amazing and I was saying it started at nine , so I thought it would be all over by 12 or maybe by 2…… but not so it went on and on till about 9 yes a lot to take it all in and see what is happening,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the schools that attended the parade…..the patience and the fervent spirit to make it to the stadium for the final act…….. I also walked the procession on Saterday,,,,,a sea of people devoted to theyre faith the singing and the peacefull stroll throughout Cebu…yes I was impressed and enjoyed the weekend a memory not to forget and to realize despite all the issues and problems that the people face in theyre daily life,,this was a coming together of the people that are called pinay’s and pinoy’s in a way I have not seen in any other place on the planet……… My respect to the organizers and the youth that performed so well!!!!!!

  16. Hi Ging, yes met the previous occupants of the space, very pleasant folks, but I gather there were issues… We didn’t do near that figure, but did 6x what we normally do on a good day… :) I think the sales for Sinulog take on a “mythical” quality… But I can tell from the truckloads of beer that the area does some SERIOUS business… I was so happy to meet nearly two dozen different readers of the blog over the past two days… thanks for coming to Zubuchon.

  17. MM I will be in Cebu this Friday, will definitely stop by Zubuchon Mango on my way back to Manila. Hopefully I make it in time for the fresh lechon but I will definitely pick up a kilo of frozen at the airport like always. Looking forward to Sunday lunch of fried lechon with rock salt and pinakurat and tons of rice. :) By the way is your guava jam available now? They only had kalamansi last time I was there. :)

  18. Pit Senyor to everyone. I miss the Sinulog this year but hopefully next year puhon maningkamot jud ko makauli para sa Sinulog. We also celebrate Sinulog here in Stavanger, Norway. It’s a big event in the Filipino Community here. We, Cebuanos are so proud of it. Thanks, MM for the Zubuchon addresses.

  19. Georgie, guava jelly not available until late next summer, no copious amounts of native guavas available at this time… We only have kalamansi for now…

  20. After 4 consecutive years of being in Cebu for the Sinulog, I finally got to have my first taste of Zubuchon. Despite the rave reviews, I took everything with a grain of salt. I’ve had my share of heaven-on-a-plate advertised delights(?), both in and out of the country, only to be disappointed upon the first bite. I am so glad to be proven wrong with Zubuchon. It is every bit as delicious and sumptuous as advertised if not more! :)

As Cebu was packed to the rafters, I was only able to visit the Gen. Maxilom branch on the 16th only to find it closed. I had to settle for the pick-up at Mactan Airport. I eagerly waited to get home to Manila and grab my first bite. I did not eat my first meal of Zubuchon, no, I gorged on it. Add to the fact that I had to reheat my Zubuchon, my mouth waters at the thought of enjoying the freshly cooked version.

I was able to buy enough for both my family’s personal consumption and for pasalubong. Wifey, seeing how I was wolfing it down and out of genuine concern for my well-being, immediately set out to distribute the pasalubong lest I devour all 6kg of the sinful delight. I guess the image of me suddenly keeling over ran through her mind. :D

Kudos to you sir Marketman and your staff for this truly world-class product!

  21. Andrew, thank you for your feedback; it is especially gratifying to hear that the experience was so pleasant despite the hiccups. Our staff had gone on double shifts for the 2-3 days of the 13th, 14th and 15th, and by midnight of Sunday, were exhausted. So I made a snap decision to close the following morning until 4pm to allow them some time to rest and get some sleep. So the closure wasn’t previously announced, and I apologize for the inconvenience for going out of your way to get to the Mango store. We sold hundreds of kilos of lechon on the 16th at the airport so I am glad you were able to get some to take home. It was a WILD SINULOG weekend; our first, and there were many lessons learned. If you manage to get to Cebu in calmer times, may I suggest you visit the stores at around 11-12noon or 6-7pm to get the pigs that are JUST delivered, and hopefully still steaming from the butt, the best way to enjoy them. Again, thanks for your business and feedback.

  22. happy to hear there’s a third branch at islands stay mactan, although we had a horrendous experience at the hotel some months back.

  23. Thank you Daisy, and it was good to me you and other readers over the weekend! :) millet, just opened. Hotel is still opening up additional rooms, so I hope it was starting pains…

  24. Finally got to eat Zubuchon! I wanted to buy everything on the menu but unfortunately my my family are picky eaters. But i ordered lechon, munggo and bangus and all were delicious!
I must say the lechon was really great since we came at about past 10am and the lechon just arrived.

  25. Thanks MM, wasn’t able to stop by any of the branches to pick up some jam but I did get more lechon at the airport departure area. My fridge almost always has 1 kilo of frozen Zubuchon for when the craving strikes! :) Good thing I have friends who fly in and out of Cebu pretty often so I rarely run out. Hehe. Sorry, perpetually hungry pregnant woman in the house. Hehe.
